Angry Corded F1's w/ 17K

I guess this is just an FYI for those of you who have "The Clunk" and haven't had it fixed yet. Like a retard I ignored it for about the past 6 months cause I work so damn much it's hard for me to get the truck to a dealer to have it fixed.

Last night while getting my oil changed, the guy says "you better come look at your front tires". I went out there and sure enough the inside of the two front tires were showing steel belts.

Had them rotate the tires, and drove the 20 miles home at about 40 mph. At least tirerack has them for $202 a tire. Should have the new tires on Thursday, then I'm going straight to the dealer.

If you have "The Clunk" and haven't had it fixed yet, get it done ASAP.

I rotate every 3k, and it still ruined my two fronts between 6k and 9k. Ford replaced them under warranty, since the alignment caused it. Then, because the ABS started doing funky stuff, they had to replace the other two tires under warranty too. Turns out the f1's that come on 2000 models are different than the '01s, and the difference in tire diameter between rears with new tread, and fronts with 10k on them was too much for the ABS system to handle, and caused the pedal to start throbbing when medium pressure was applied on dry pavement.

Just an FYI, in case you have driveability problems. Also, for those of you listening, the alignment warranty is through the first 12k miles, so get it fixed and get new tires free!

I always check my tires, and I put Herb's washer fix on for the clunk at around 10,000mi. I'm on 18,000mi and the only reason I need to tires is because the tread is getting thin evenly across the rears. (And this is after using them at an AutoCross race too).

My F1's seemed to have last pretty well...and I've done a few nice burnouts too.

There are some people who will scoff at this idea, but after going through my first set of F1s at 14k miles (and mine wore the _outside_ and the "clunk", etc was fixed...I blame the problem on a faulty factory alignment)...the guy at the local shop who does my alignments said, "Wes, you take such good care of your cars, and you're **** about this stuff. My advice would be to rotate the tires _every_ time you change your oil."

So, this set I'm rotating every 3k miles. Not that this would have saved my first set, and it wouldn't have helped in your case (clunk problem), but its something to consider once its all fixed.

Wes,

That's not a bad idea at all, I'm going to seriously consider doing that after I get this fixed.
