2000 L Owners...
I was driving to work today about Mid-Day here in the East. It was about 67 degree's and all of a sudden I hear a loud CLUNK from the drivers side, I felt it in the floor on my side. I though WTF was that... so I keep pulling up and I start hearing the grinding noise sounds like metal to metal. It gets louder and clangs clangs grind... so I pull into my work.
Note: Truck is a 2000 but I have only had it for 70 days and it has only 4k miles on it.
So I pop the hood look, I don't see any obstructions or anything burnt out of the ordinary. (I'm not a proclaimed mechanic) I start her up and Im looking and the Belt on the SC isn't turning. So I am looking around to see what it is, and pop whinnnee it does it again and the belt slips a bit but still doesn't turn. So I turned the Truck off and checked the pulleys it is on. They turned just fine by hand with the truck off. They weren't hot or anything.
I went into work and told the boss I would have to drop it off cause I live 30 miles from work and wouldn't be driving it that far like this. I dropped it off and got a rental.
Any Idea's as to what is going on with this truck. I feel like telling them I want a new truck.
=(

The Clunk is "The Clunk"... look through the FAQ. Nearly everyone of us has it, easy problem to fix. Can't explain, because I am not a mechanic either.
It's a steering problem, by the way.

The Clunk, is the grinding noise under hood associated with that? It is constant until I cut the truck off and start it again.

I checked the FAQ. It isn't that clunk. Now that you mention it about that clunk... is that the one when you turn to far to the left or right it pops? Also, does your steering wheel sit to the right more? Hahaha, ok... thats 5 problems all in 1, but the engine problem is the serious one...

Possibly the lower blower pulley came off if your blower belt is not turning. Mine was loose when I did the swap.

There is an adaptor that drives the blower pulley. It has three bolts that are used to mount it to the balancer pulley on the crank. Those bolts have been loose on some of the 00 Ls. When I took mine out to do the pulley swap they were just a little more than finger tight. If the blower pulley isn't moving with the engine running and you can turn them by hand with the engine off, the first place I'd look is at the bolts that hold that adaptor in place.

Just like ****** said. Two of mine were backed part way out and the third was finger tight. You would think Ford would know about Nylok or at least Loc-Tite.

Thanks, I checked into it today. A bolt was backed out and about halfway. It was a lower blower pulley bolt and I couldn't see it. Ford is ordering me new parts, I will mention Loc-Tite for them to put on when they swap it.
