Speaker&Amp Upgrade
When i pick up my new silver 01 this week i want to put in the best sounding replacement speakers and best quality amp for my truck! I have read that Polk or Infinity is really good for a replacement speaker, and how much power through an amp would you reccommend to drive those speakers! Just need your input! Thanks

The stock speakers basicly suck. I replaced my fronts with Polk DX7's and they sound great. Next up are the rears, which I will also use the some DX7's. I found this place online for only $89 pair but can't remember the website right now. You should think of getting some sound deadening material for your truck at the same time. I made a mistake of buying the expensive Dynamat Extreme in my front doors. I found this place www.b-quiet.com that has the same stuff call b-quiet extreme for only $72 for a 50 sq. ft roll campared to $35 for only 4 sq. ft for the dynamat.
I picked up a Xtant amp for my truck also the other month but didn't have to knowlegde or time to put in yet. I got the Xtant 403a which is a 3 channel 400w amp. They told me that it could run 4 speakers and 1 sub, hope its true.

I would fisrt state how much you want to spend, I have about $8000 in my stereo and rtkiller has a super nice setup also.
If I had that $8000 to spend all over I would of done things some what different. If you want to spend $79 for super nice speakers try the guy above this post.
Hey SurfsUp. The Xtant amp you have is awesome. As is all the Xtant line. Your 403A actually could be said to be a 5 channel amp. It runs 50X2 and 100X1. In addition, it has what Xtant calls passive outputs for your rear speakers. These can be attenuated up or down with the use of the "RM" modules avaliable form you Xtant dealer. I've been in the 12volt business for a long time and as far as amps go......in my opinion, Xtant can't be beat. VIVID MOBILE AUDIO.
I went with a set of MB Quarts. I run MB Quarts in my 93 Cobra and really like the sound of them. They can handle a lot of power and are very clear. They run for about $300 a set. I got mine for $259. I run every thing off the stock head unit. I like it setup this way because I did not bother with rear speakers so I just use the rear channel for the subs and when I don't want any bass I just fade the system to the front speakers and the subs shut off. If I want more bass then I just push the fader to the rear and crank up the bass. I also figured it would be $1000 to replace the stock head unit and 6 disk changer. Instead I got two high lever converts for $40 and some wiring harness for $30 and was done with it. When you look in my truck it appears to be stock. For amps I went with PPI power class amps. I also used them in my cobra and they put out real good clean power. They have lots of different settings so you can setup the system for what ever type of music you listen to. I have two 10” kicker solobaric square subs and they sound incredible. I am really happy with these subs. The bass is very clear and tight. Best subs I have ever owned. It might help too that I dynamated my whole truck. From floor to sealing. No rattles and no outside noise. If you are not going to go with a set of subs then you might not want to go with the MB Quarts because they really don’t put out that much bass. When I get home tonight I will turn off the subs and just listen to the MB’s and let you know how it sounds.
I am by no means a stereo expert. I have only done a couple of stereo installs and don’t have tons of money to test all types of systems. I did a lot of research and talked to local shops to get an idea of what worked and what did not. I would not recommend talking to places like best buy or circuit city. Go to stereo specific shops and talk to the people who know and care.
Here is a pic of my 93 Cobra install
Here are some pics of my truck during the dynamat install
This is my amp rack so far.
I have not yet completed the system in my L so I don’t have any pics yet. Will post when I finish it up.
Any questions please let me know.

JL Audio has some very nice direct replacements but they are expensive ($250). The stock head will push them but they sound much better with the JL audio 75x4 amp.

If you live in a hot climate stay away from B-Quiet...it melts!. I put B-Quiet in the back of the cab and it oozed down the back wall when the weather got hot. It made a super mess. The stuff is made from black asphalt-like stuff and it doesn't look very good when it gets on the carpet.
