Question Important question about strait pipes

I was thinking about cutting off the magnaflow this weekend and do straits because I want a much meaner sound. But I don't want to get pulled over everyday or go deaf at highway speeds. Could anyone running them tell me what they think about them?

thanks,
Darryl

They sound awesome...idle has a good rumble, and when you punch, "Oh my god!" I've gone past many officers with them on, and haven't had any trouble. At highway speeds, you will hear it in the cab. The thing that I've had to do to adjust to the new sounds is, speak up when I'm on my cell, or talking with someone next to me, or turn my music up just a little bit louder. It's not horrible, b/c if it was, I'd take them off in a second... It's a liveable rumble for me... JMHO.

I'm running straight pipes, and I like it alot. You do get a rumble or drone at highway speeds, but to each there own. Some do not like the "drone" at highway speed. Hey but it is a truck, and when cruisin' thru town or at WOT it's just right for me. It is definately a head turner.

Sorry to ask such a dumb question but, what are straitpipes? Do you just cut off the muffler & let the exhaust tips hang there?

I heard a 2000 with straight pipes last weekend in Tampa. VERY nice. Not overbearing, but has just the right amount of aggressiveness to it. And when blipped...most impressive. That is what I will be doing to mine. I was told the mod wouldn't need to be factored into a chip. Anyone know if this is factual??? And that it wouldn't lean out the engine or affect the performance negatively. I was told the cats provide the necessary backpressure.

I suppose the cats can't be removed anyway due to O2 sensors. They DO have sensors right? So I couldn't remove the cats and leave the muffler???Just some idle thought....

1. you do not have to modify your chip.

2.The only drawback is you lose some of the supercharger whine because it is overtaken by the loud exhaust.

3.This is the only exhaust mod that has been PROVEN to make a difference of 1-2 tenths CONSISTANT!

4.My truck ran 13.2 consistant EVERY time I ran at the track. After strait pipes,I got 13.0s 13.1s and even managed a 12.9. The 12.9 was a combination of the exhaust, weather, ice in the intercooler I absolutly can say it would not have reached it with just the mods I had if It were not for the strait pipes.I bought a new factory system and put it on my truck but when I get into racing season again,I will be putting the ol pipes back on.

Check back here, later on tonight. I will head out and get some sound clips for every one.

There are already a couple at my site, from a roll, and one from a stop.

Today, I will be putting the camera outside, about where the adjacent car would be, and throw a nice rev....

I gained a consistent .2 off my 1/4 mile.

Anyone want me to email them pics? Geocites does not like me posting my pics on thier servers here.

Check out the post "WOW" a couple of days ago regarding this mod. I bolted on a x pipe in place of the muffler over a year and a half ago which I believe to be even better for a mere $75.00. I also just bought a digital camera and am clueless how to attach pictures, so if someone can help I will attach a picture.

Question

shonut,

If possible, could you let me know where I can get an "X" pipe like you have? Maybe some details about measurements? I'm wondering if this is something that I can have made at any old exhaust shop, or if its something that I could just order from somewhere.

Thanks...

Not to hurt anyones feelings but I would just go with strait pipes.Looking at the photo it looks as though the x pipe is restrictive with that big bend in it and it could have some turbulance rather than just strait out.
