Question about 90mm mass air unit
When I had my L dynoed the other night, I was told that I would be better off with a Pro M than the OE 90mm that I installed.
I know the Pro M is 80mm yet flows better than the OE 80mm, or at least this is what I'm told.
He said he could "tune" a Pro M better.
Opinions?

Tim, I don't know if I agree with that statement, but some tuner just have more expiriance tuning with the Pro-m. I did surface area calculations, and the 90mm outflows the 80mm Pro-M by only 4.7%. Not really enough to buy the 90mm if you already have the Pro-M. But both far outflow the stock 80mm. In either case, you need to correct the PCM for each meter. Even though the Pro-M is "desinged" to be a bolt on, to make the truck really run like it should, there are things that need to be corrected in the chip. Maybe some of my customers here who have had me "correct" for thier Pro-M vs just bolting it on, can give you thier opinions. But I don't see why the Pro-M would be "better" than using the 90mm. I myself, prefer to use a Ford meter if the application allows.

I know this isn't news, but I agree wholeheartedly with Sal on this one. When he recal-ed my chip with a corrected a/f curve for the Pro-M it really woke up and started working properly. No more hunting for an idle rpm, no dying at stop lights and signs, & shifts improved radically (yes, the Pro-M can most definitely affect the tranny). It also seems to get a little better gas mileage.
