Limited Slip Diff Friction Mat'l Issues?
Limited Slip Diff Friction Mat'l Issues?
I've got 47k miles on my '01L including ~30-40 days of on-track events. Its well overdue for powertrain fluid changes. I'm going to do change the differential oil even thought the owner's manual says the factory fill is good for the life of the truck. But I'm becoming worried about the friction mat'l in the limited slip. A buddy I work with (a former Ford transmission engineer) says that at about 40k miles is when the friction mat'l in the limited slip wears enough to loss some of its capacity, and that the 04+ F-150s went to carbon fiber friction mat'l to extend life.
I am starting to see some slip when torque wheels with the truck up on jack stands. So my question to all (including the road racers) is wha't your experience with the life of the limited slip, is there a better drop-in friction mat'l, shimming the preload on the existing set-up, etc.
Thanks
Dan

Rule of thumb with a stock Ford Trac-Lock LS is by 100k consider them a fully open differential. Your clutches are probably starting to give out, I doubt your truck being a Lightning (and beiging used as one) is helping the clutch life any.
The Truetrack is a nice looking unit, if I was going to go aftermarket that would be it.
