IRS !?
I just found on www.f150lightning.com an Independent Rear Suspension system. Has anyone tried this?
This IRS unit is of the highest quality and it works. The double “A” arm coil over system gives you a smoother ride and better control through corners under all conditions. This should have been a factory option.
Just ask the folks at Ford SVO that drove the truck at the 2000 SEMA show in Las Vegas Price: (approx) $5900.00. Installation time is 3 – 5 hours. Call for more details.

It looks like they are using whimpy CV joints and half-shafts. In that case, I wouldn't touch it with a 10-ft pole. If Cobra owners are breaking those things off, I can't imagine these half-shafts holding up under our trucks.
I remember hearing some of the details on his IRS. It had the drive shaft parts from a supercharged Thunderbird... 8.something rear instead of our solid 9.75.
He's been using it for his land speed racing.

This topic and product has been passed around for about 1 1/2 years now. If I remember the original price was around $4700?
I'm not saying to do a search; I just find it somewhat humorous that this is approached as something new. Search around and you’ll find some specifics if you are interested to know more.

1 or 2 others also had this idea modeled in a CAD environment.

Dreamin,
In the first picture you can see the CV joint boot between the coil over and the caliper. With a CV joint that size, it's unlikely they are using a very beefy half-shaft. Vettes uses U-Joints and short (but large) driveshafts for their IRS and should holds up better.
