question about the various oil separator kits.
ok so i will be installing my upgraded intercooler soon. and i dont want it to end up like the old one. i have seen several styles of the oil separator kit....
1. had a clear canaster that caught the oil
2. was a black canaster that sat ontop the valve cover (rpmoutlet.com)
3. the breather filters on either side of the engine.
what would you guys recommend? the clear canister i kinda like b/c i can keep an eye on the oil..but looks kinda bad sitting there....the canister on the valve cover..how would you empty that one? and how often would you need to change or could you clean the air filter version? thanks for the advice in advanced

screw those things... go for a pcv complete delte... both sides of the motor, and it will completly eliminate any oil from getting inside there... ALSO delete the egr, that will cut off any dirty exhasut soot from getting in there too...
those oil seperators don't work 100% not one of them... the may work a little, but the only way to keep it clean and bone dry is to eliminate the pcv and egr... plus its cheaper...

The ONLY seperator that seems to work is the L&S but it's expensive and bulky. I have the clear one and just cleaned my intercooler after 40K miles. It was horrible.
As for the PCV delete, it will keep oil out of the blower, but the smell when you kick on the a/c is strong.

I've been using the L&S one for a year or so now after trying 4 or 5 others with poor results. I haven't pulled the supercharger to check for unwanted oil but the throttle body is clean.

You can do a "search" on here and go back to 2001, you will find several other methods guys used for around $25 or less and you can make the best decison for yourself.
But if you don't want to do the "search," I can summarize up most of what others have experienced and noted on here: most of these methods don't seem to work for all (and I'm not sure why one guy will say method "A" for example, works, and another guy would say it was useless) and some methods don't seem to work for almost anybody. And there are a few guys whose L didn't seem to pass excessive oil at all - and I don't know why they don't.
To summarize the methods that guys report seemingly most successfully in trapping excessive oil vapors in the past couple of years: the L & S seperator from Vince and some of the catch cans. I'm not endorsing either method - just noting what people have said in the past couple of years.
Personally I deleted the whole PCV system years ago and run breathers - but there are some liabilities when doing this too.

how are the breathers working out for you? what are the liabilities? what all did you need to go this route?
