Smile JDM Filter Kit & Pringles - At the Strip

Well it was time for the first outing in the new '01 at our "local" dragstrip. Made it in time to see Snowplow run his second run of the day. At half track, there was a large cloud of smoke coming from the left side of the truck. Resulted in this:

That was that for his day. Fancy wheels got him home:

Turns out that he is on his 4th block heater, and it decided to call it quits once again. The big spill in the pits happened with the removal of the screw holding it in. Not a pretty sight.

I guess we were dealing with an incredibly green race track. I stepped up for my first run, punched it on green, and spun my way through first, lifted, and punched it again. Good for a 2.41 60' time, but get this, 103 mph. Huh? Now if we can get this thing to hook. We're talking 1100 miles, hitch removed, street tires, 75 deg weather, high humdity, low barometer, and a start line that did not allow anything but a rolled out launch. By my fifth run I was able to run a respectable 2.081 60', and a best ever 13.41 @ 104.37 mph. All on JDM filter and Pringles only. I am very, very pleased.

I think I finally got one of those trucks that is not low on the totem pole, performance wise. This baby rocks. I never had a run without spin off the line and I barked 2nd on most runs. Give me a track, and we're going places. Wooo Hoooo!

Wow, nice runs! Very impressive with just an air filter. BTW, who won the honda race in the pic? You never know, I saw a few hondas banging out low 13's a couple of weeks ago.

Nice pics Tim I can't exactly say I had a great time yesterday. I love your truck. Looks like she will be a great runner whhen it's broke in on a good track. The best run for Leaky (the one you saw) was a 14.666. In stock trim. With a 2.4 60' where last year I was getting 2.0 60'. I fugure had she held together with the track starting to get better I could have had a 14.1-14.2 eventually stock. That is prety much what I expected.

With all the problems I have had I am starting to think that I would be better off tradding the L in for something else. This will require some deep soul searching.

Once again it was great to meet another L owner. I'll let you know what I decide to do.

Later,
SnowPlow aka (Leaky)

DennisG: Sorry if I mislead you, but my truck has one other JDM enhancement. Not just the filter, if you know what I mean.

Forgot to mention that I was running with 3/4 of a tank. Very poor planning on my part. There is a lot more to be had out of this truck.

SnowPlow: Yes it was great to meet with you and your friends. Sorry about the crappy day. Guess you have to wait and see what the dealership has to say about things. Good luck with it.

I'll e-mail you more pictures.

Now if we could just get some more Ontario SVT owners out to the track. It is a lot of fun.

Congrats on the time. Pretty sweet..

BTW I am the guy with the black RT that did snowplow a favour.. TAXI CAB! HA HA HA But seriously Al, that sucked.. As you two saw I was pretty disappointed with the RT's time. it ran 14.78 stock, and I put a Cold Air intake, PCM, and cutouts on it and run 15.0??? WTF??

What04, question for you. What time of day did you run the 13.4? If you don't mind, can you post your times of the day with the time of day you did it? The reason I ask, is that most of the vehicles I saw there ran very poor times early on, but picked it up significantly later on.. I saw a WS6 do a 14.6 beside me at about 11:30am, and by 2:30 he had it down to 13.5. I was packed up and ready to go by a bit after 12:30. Snoplows experience put a damper on things. For me anyway, HE'S MY PAL!! Ha ha ha. Since I ran such crap (lost time), I am wondering if the track got that much better as the day went on.

Thanks for any info about this... I just need and explaination (other than the RT is slow)

Hey RT try it with the cut outs plugged. Sounds like you lost your torque off the line. Your ET is in the 60'. My Tahoe did the same thing when I took off the cats.

I had 3 tries on my 99's block heater before they tried some good old black RTV and let it cure before running it at high rpm again. This fixed it.

The mechanism for holding this heater into the block is very poor.

Hey Thirsty,

Yes the track did suck.

I ran:

14.15 @ 102.8 at 11:30
13.56 @ 103.?? at 12:30
13.6? @ 104.? at 1:30
13.80 @ 103.5 at 2:30
13.41 @ 104.37 at 3:30

The right lane started coming around as they were running the "real" cars down it exclusively near the end.

Good meeting you. See you again I'm sure.

Thanks What04. I really hope it was just a matter of conditions. I was looking at the slips last night, and my last pass was in the left lane at 12:49 ET=3.060 seconds.. the one before that was at 12:15. I noticed that they started spraying the line too. Well I guess I just have to hope that it was all a result of a bad day. I'm sure I'll see you again.. I will be in St. Thomas on May 25, 26. I think Snowplow is gonna go too, so there is no reason you shouldn't go. There is an R/T club meet there that weekend. There may be a few blown R/T's there from Michigan for you to run against. We are just having our meet on a regular T&T day so anyone can run with us, just not eligable for the prizes.

TahoeSS: Capped or uncapped I couldn't hook. My rear tires are about done. And they are just 255's so.. nuff said. Even the R/T would get major wheelspin in second. When I can do that, there is not traction..

"Pringles" must be like the Lay's motto, "Nobody can eat just one." Seems like there are alot of people with more than one chip.

Actually NeedFourSpeed, the Pringles motto is "Once you pop, you can't stop!"

But I'm glad to see that someone is catching on.

Just installed the Keyless Doorpad option as well. Great mod.
