2001 Crate Motors for sale. WhyCome???
Greensnake:
Didn't take long did it??
All in all, it is still a real bargain. I paid $4000 for mine in Oct of 99 and sold it in the summer of 2000 for $4500 which really just covered my freight and interest costs.
Sadly, it seems my point will never be taken up or answered as to how these motors get out of the FMC system into independent channels when there is apparently still a warranty demand that is not quickly satisfied.
To sort of re-route the subject, since they are out there and are, in my and others opinion incredibly cheap, has anyone successfully transplanted one of these marvelous motors into a non Lightning vehicle and made it work?
I had visions of putting the one I purchased into a really nice '56 F100 I have sitting in the driveway but got warned off due to all the computer related technical difficulties involved in such a swap. Not your normal going from a 272 to a 460 type thing from the carburetor days.
I'd like to see a post from someone who has actually done one.

Has anyone confirmed that these are actually 2001 units? My guess is that now that the majority of 99&00 Ls are over 12K mi/1 yr. old, FMC no longer has the need to stock a quantity of replacement units since engine failures on vehicles >12k/1yr. will get remanufactured motors. Coupled with the likelyhood that if these are 99/00 motors, they have a significant number of intercoler leaks waiting to happen. Would be curious to know the vintage of these units, what intercoolers they're equipped with and what if any warranty FMC is providing with them.
Got to agree with ya Bill, would make a killer transplant motor in a hot rod or old truck. Bet some of the more enterprising & talented people on this site could plumb one in, computer and all!

If these engines are indeed of '00 vintage, I certainly hope the purchaser is informed about the likelihood of intercooler core leaks. Surely there is a specific warranty that comes with these engines.

Hey Aggie04!
Good to see another Ag on the board!
I think you will have to do quite a bit to pull this off... The L tranny is much different than the tranny in a "normak F-150... I would bet they won't even bolt up. The L tranny is a modified diesel tranny shoe-horned into a gas engine case... To handle the extra torque...
You'd also need the L computer... $ doesn't look worht it. you'd be better off taking off the radiator cap and driving a new L under it, and those may not even match
What ya studying at A&M?</font>

As far as the swap goes, you need to find a wrecked one to scavange parts from IMO.

I believe the reason KarKraft has access the these motors, is KarKraft was the builder of the Boss 429 Mustangs in 1969 for Ford. So it sounds like a long term relationship. BTW...how do I get on BaBolt waiting list for those Lightning TB's?????
SOLD OUT!!!!! MUST HAVE ONLY HAD THE 4 IN THE PICTURE. I think I might have bought one. Oh well.................
