well.. i talked to a couple of lawyers today..
they both think it may cost more money to fight the dealership than i'll get out of them.

Brooks - Do you have any TV stations in the area that have a consumer lawyer? If so call any or all of them (more is better in this case). They usually love to get a hold of something like this. You should expect the dealer to play hardball since they caused this and it will come out of their pocket to fix it. By the way they should have insurance for this kind if stuff. You might also want to consider having one of those lawyers send a demand letter. It will cost you a few bucks but at least the dealer will know that you are thinking about legal action. Sometimes that helps a dealer see the light. Even if they think they will win it will still cost them to defend and that's money out of their pocket as well. Just stay calm and keep the preasure on them.

Good luck.

Clonetech: Unbelievable how poorly some people treat customers! Try getting in touch with your state attorney general's office. Most have a consumer affairs division that can either help settle your dispute or point you to a consumer affairs agency that can help. Good Luck!

Here I go again..

I'll talk to the dealership where I worked when living my miserable false life in Louisiana, but until then, if *I* were you, I'd locate a "Wreck Check" franchise. They can cause SERIOUS headaches to body shops/dealerships... trust me.. I would think they could give you a diminished value BEFORE the repairs, as well as after.

I know of one in Denham Springs, but that's kinda out of your way. If you come up with nothing, it's called American Coachworks and I would NEVER recommend them to do the body work. Just so we're clear on that. But the lady there is on top of her game when it comes to depreciation and work quality inspections. They just can't seem to do quality work, but have fooled others into believing their work is good. I know that sounds incredibly weird.. Just take my word for it

I'm also going to get a link to a message board frequented by ICAR certified shops. But that will take me a little time finding it.

Call Ford's customer service number, and be sure to DOCUMENT everything.

I'll post back with the link as soon as I find it again.

Hang in there, Sweetie.

All this advice sounds good clonetek. I'd say you need some other L or cobra to drive as a loner.

GET A LAWYER!!!! I think but could be wrong....that damage on the door sill is enough to total out the vehicle. Like if a cab pillar gets bent, it compromises the vehicles structural integrity and the insurance company will total out the vehicle. I would maybe even call your insurance company to have their adjuster look at it and see what they say. If you can get your insurance to declare a total loss, its on the dealer to make good and you can bet your insurance company will sue till they due. Good luck and I hope you come out on top. Any by the way, my wife has an Expy and they gave her a Focus for a loaner too and she said she would rather just walk!

Umm.. Not really. Structural integretiy schmegnity. The damage is ugly, yes, but does it cost over $18,000 to repair? LOL! NO! (figuring truck worth $24,000 and total loss @75%). It won't exceed $5000 to repair and that's being generous.

You'd be surprised what repair facilities can do these days. It's NOT uncommon to see vehicles (trucks and SUVs) getting complete frame replacements, especially those pesky Dodge Ram trucks. I'd hate to have been an "engineer" on THAT project!

Seriously, it's mostly cosmetic. His rocker panel is dented, but the actual FRAME of the truck is not hurt. Far from a total loss. And YES, I believe with all my heart and knowledge that he DOES need to be reimbursed in some way shape or form for the loss he's suffered and WILL suffer if he ever intends to sell or trade in the truck. Broken paint for whatever reason decreases the value of the vehicle.
