Post K&N DROP-IN FILTER

JUST TALKED TO SUMMIT RACING ABOUT A K&N DROP-IN FILTER FOR MY 01 BOLT. THEY CALLED THE FACTORY AND HAD NO LISTING YET, ONLY FOR THE 99-00 LIGHTNINGS. SOMEONE POSTED A PART NUMBER OF 33-2140 AND SAID IT WOULD FIT THE 01. SUMMIT HAS THAT PART NUMBER BUT CAN'T CONFIRM THE FIT. ANYONE ON HERE KNOW FOR SURE.THANKS FOR THE HELP.---JIM

Is there a reason you are just putting in the K&N filter element instead of going with the Airaid box/filter system? Someone on this post I read said the K&N element alone didn't do anything for performance. This I read maybe about 3 weeks ago. Do you have other information about HP increase just with the K&N filter element? Does anyone know for sure?

I want to see the difference between a panel and a conical in an 01. I know that the 00 and 99 guys had sucky boxes, but I just hate the fact that I'm raising my inlet temp at least 10 degrees. I don't give a flip how much fresh air comes in there when the truck is moving, the air is warmer than ambient. I talked to JDM and they said they didn't test a 01 panel vs a conical......they just changed it after 99/00 results. JDM also said your inlet temp would be slightly warmer.

I'll do a dyno comparison in the future, but with a closed hood and no moving air to compensate....I'm not sure what will happen. An open hood will not simulate what is happening on the street or track.

I have some left over 4" mandral bent exhaust tubing from making my 351W inlet. I'd rather make my own inlet system then pay $150 for a $40 filter, a piece of bar stock, and a adaptor.

I couldn't really find a way to located the filter for my 93 outside the engine compartment, but I think I may be giving up a few HP.

I think the 99/00 guys have panel filter paranoia from the small opening in the stock 99/00 box.

Anyway my K&N drop in will be here tomorrow from summit as well as my 2 5/8" boost gauge.

Ford Motorsports has K&N manufacture filters for them; same thing except the filters are blue. So, the next time any dealer tells you about aftermarket stuff and warranties, think about this:

MOTORSPORT HIGH PERFORMANCE AIR FILTERS NEW

Ford Motorsport SVO is proud to announce the arrival of its new line of high performance, Ford racing blue, air filters for most popular Ford applications. These filters are produced to Ford Motorsport SVO specifications by K&N Engineering, Inc. With 44 fuel injection applications this new line-up promises to have something for almost everyone, including two universal cone filters. This product reduces restriction in the intake system. These new filters are reusable because they can be cleaned and re-oiled, with the Ford Motorsport SVO filter recharger kit, for years of service. Ford Motorsport SVO offers car kits for most popular applications from Escort to Taurus, and truck kits from Aerostar to Windstar, and of course Mustang and F-150 kits. Additionally we offer fuel injection performance kits and off-road performance kits.

UNIVERSAL CONE FILTERS 7" long, 3.5" flange, 4-5/8" diameter tapering to 3.5" Not legal for sale or use on pollution-controlled motor vehicles.

Mine works good. Put a 4" hose to it and it will look like this in a few thousand miles.
