From what I've seen at the track and based on my experience with my '99 Z28 6-speed and my chip/filtered '00 Lightning, I'd say the LS1 is gonna win most of the time. The Lightning's best chance is on the street, chip/filtered, a couple of sand bags for traction, from a dead stop to about 85 mph against a box stock 6 speed LS1 f-body on OEM tires. My Camaro is totally stock and ran 107 mph in the 1/4 mile. It does the last 1/8 mile over 1 second quicker than my chip/filtered Lightning. With light mods and some sticky tires, LS1s are rocket ships. Almost every LS1 Cambird I see at the track is lightly modded and runs high 11s/low 12s.

As a general rule, I don't expect to win against an LS1 powered car, but the Lightning is close enough to capitalize on even the slightest mistake by the LS1 driver.

'00 Lightning - 13.110 @ 105.91
'92 Stealth Turbo - 13.4 @ 103
'99 Z28 - 13.7 @ 107

Thumbs up

Hey Rich, I'm going to Newark DE which is pretty close to NJ. Hopefully I can hook up with MarkJ and the bunch to hit Cecil a few times. I'm looking to try and hit 11s on street tires up there with the better conditions. I extend an offer to any of the BADRAP group to come up and visit if you guys ever want to hit any of the tracks or shows up there. I'll miss all of my friends Tampa but I will be sure to stop by the board a lot.
