I have to agree.
A Lightning should represent responsibilty and should only be driven by someone who earns that.
A kid like that will eventually lose the truck either to an accident, or too many tickets, or he'll blow the damn thing up.

I earned mine, bought it, and respect what it re[resents to me; a level of success which enabled me to attain one.

My 2cents.

When Wells and I took his truck to have the gears done up in Cheyenne, a kid who was working at the shop (16) had a band new silver L. He got good deals on parts and those guys liked playing with the L, it was something new to tweak so they let him hang around and work. His dad bought it for him. Even though I was a little irritated that his Daddy bought it I was still sad for him when I found out what happened. No...he didn't crash it. His 16 year old gf did....right off main into the front of a Dodge dealership...taking out the L and 4 or 5 brand new Durangos...do you think his dad is rethinking his decision to get his kid this truck? But the fact of the matter is, I was spoiled but I was still brought up to respect and work for what I have now, including my Lightning, If the kid is just plain spoiled it will work out to his disadvantage eventually. But seriously...how many of us here, if handed the keys to brand new L at 16 would have said No thanks dad I would much rather wait until I am experienced and work hard for my own Lightning. YEAH RIGHT!

I think the problem stems from some unappreciative young people having to much stuff that they have not had to earn. Not that to many kids could earn the cost of an L. Just that they never seem to respect anything unless some of it comes out of their pocket.
On the other hand some of the coolest kids drive some pretty mundane vehicles that are fixed up very well.

Well said Whitelightninsvtgirl

I agree w/skankdog. That kid has no respect for his vehicle. Showing off is stupid at best but hey - we've ALL done it to some extent. However, to have ANY vehicle with only 600 miles be that dirty is not a sign of maturity, responsibility or appreciation. My first car was given to me by a neighbor back in '72 - a '62 Galaxie 500 & that car was washed/waxed every chance I had! I paid my own insurance from day 1 - my parents said if I wanted to own a car I had to "own the responsibilities" of it too. I may be biased but I think my parents are the best in the world! It taught me there's alot more to owning/driving a vehicle than just turning the igntion switch! This kid at the very LEAST need to learn how to care for a vehicle.

Right on. I own my own garage and I see all the kids and ther cars. They bring them in all f up and say mommy or daddy will pay for it. These cars (mostly) are all a POS. Then I see the other side of the coin. The kid that bought a 72 mustang (a real project) take a second job to pay for a new carb becouse his mommy does not have the money. This kid came down to the shop and asked me if he could help around here so he could learn more about his car. He is doing all the work on this car his self. I have all the respect for this kid. The other ones I would not even give the time of day to.

Young or not, wealthy or not, the kid was just plain being STUPID - so who's going to give him a break when he kills someone with his antics...

Yeah right, like he deserves a break.
He may not know it, but doing doughnuts in a parking lot and burnouts on a public street is wreckless driving and has the same legal ramifications and points as a DUI.
Mandatory jail time and loss of license for 3 - 4 months.
I'm sure Daddy would be proud.

Yes well it is only reckless driving if they catch you...hope the Choctaw police dont find me any time soon. They was a little mad last Friday when I just suddenly disappeared after my nice little smoke show and and umm speed demonstration in front of a local gast station. I can say it is fun to be a kid and be reckless and childish.

Skank Dog the way this kid trated his truck makes me sick too. I wish I could keep mine in the garage and only drive it when it was nice out. For me my Lightning is my daily and only ride. The outside is filthy right now, we got rain and snow last night. It is full of salt, and dirt, but the inside is spotless.

When I was young my Dad gave me a car, a 69 Bronco with a strait 6 and all rusted out. I loved that truck. That was the only vehical my parents ever bought me. Someone needs to teach that kid the value of a buck.

I don't hold anything against the kid for having a nice ride. Who at that age wouldn't want one? But apparently his parents have failed in raising him properly, so I blame them for his immaturity and lack of respect. Too bad he'll probably die in it. I just hope he doesn't take a family with him. And hopefully not one of ours.

I work in our county's prosecutor's office and have for the last 12 years. Just last week I was talking with one of our county school's psychologists. To summarize our conversation, she was concerned about a 17 year old who is exhibiting bi-polar tendencies. (Domestic violence etc.) He's very destructive too. His father told her (the psychologist) his son has talked about wanting a Lightning and he thought he'd buy him one to "calm him down". She told me she didn't know what a Lightning was. When I told her what it was capable of, she said, "Oh my God." I can't wait til he gets his hands on one.....I know of a new silver and red one sitting there waiting for his daddy to bring home to him.

hmmm..... well, that guy seems like a real jackass, and he definitely makes it tough for the rest of us “fortunate ones” to get any respect. Don't know exactly how(or why), but my dad did buy my truck. She gets a bath at least once a week and all the TLC I can give her. I definitely think that the average teen (and some adults for that matter) should NOT have this truck or any fast vehicle. But I’m not average I'm sure this guy will come real close to wrecking his truck and learn that this sh*t isn't a game.
Later,
I don't think seattlesnake will be to happy about some of the pics in my album!

IMHO: I am 18 and I received my Lightning as an early graduation present (high school graduation). I drove a 1991 Nissan Maxima with 150,000+ miles on it. Never wrecked it, kept it clean. My parents appreciated that I took good care of it, and I was rewarded with the American Dream Car. (My dad loves muscle cars: His first car was a 1966 Dodge Charger with a 383) So, my .02 is that kid doesn't deserve it. I refuse to slam my truck, and I am doing the best to keep my tires lasting. I buy everything for it, though my dad makes the payments. So, I agree with everyone that thinks that kid is ruining a work of art.
My honest oppinion.

Well I drive my lightning a little hard too, I love swinging the truck around corners and a donut here and there. I'm not much for power brakes as I enjoy the truck moving when the tires are spinning. I only got about 2400 miles on my rears before I had to put them on the front as they were getting a little thin. As far as the truck being dirty that I am dead against. I wash my truck just about evry time I take it out, I like um clean.. Bill

I'am 17 i paid for my Lightning as for the insurance my dad put it under his name so it would be a little bit cheaper for me, but you know just because "most" teen's have a bad rep their are still good one's out there.
As for the adults you guys should not be pointing fingers either.

It's all good.
