BINGO, I still have 3 old Red Diablo Chips somewhere, but they're useless.
Newsilversvt if you have a "4" Bank Red Chip and your happy with your tune and there's no changes planned your good to go forever. BUT if you should ever change your set up and need a re-tune watch what happens...

When the SCT New Revolutiuon Chip and X-Cal Hand Held Tuner, and Diablo's Chipmaster Black Chip and their Diablo Hand Held came out, everything changed. I've personally been told by multi tuners Superchip or Diablo will NOT make a new tune for the old chips and the tuners are not allowed to use their old files, hence the reason I have 3 red chips somewhere collection dust.... and yes I'm sure somewhere someone would part with a old file but why would you want that when the new technoligy allows the tuner to work his own magic and build you a custom tune based on his experience in tuning hundreds and hundreds of L's.

I should add there is absolutely nothing wrong with a old style "4" bank Chip, amof it's the same thing as a new stlye 4 bank chip HOWEVER your not going to get a new custom tune for one.

Already have the K&N CAI woudl that be smart? Question two is with that power option when you get the tunner does it come to you with a tune or not, cause I was thinking about getting the 5 pound crank pulley from JLP. Thanks for the help.
The FTVB is an amazing Mod and lots do it first, GO FOR IT
New Plugs are always good but if you go to the colder NGK TR6's without the pulley on it yet you might notice a change in low end throttle response and
idle (nothing at all to worry about). So again DO IT ...

As for the Chip / Hand Held Tuner
You really want to go to a SCT and Lightning Tuner ; JDM, PSP, Johnny Lighting, Woodbine Motorsports, etc... A Hand Held Tuner holds "3" tunes so in your case you could ask for a no pulley stock tune, a 5lb pulley tune, and lets say a 5lb pulley race tune. And of course without the pulley you could also have no tune and save all 3 for your new set up with the pulley.
Johnny tuned me for years and I ran absolutely flawless all through it, I would give him a call and try and get everything from him so he knows exactly what you have, and he can provide you the perfect custom tune for it

thanks for the help and I think that is the way Im going to go, one last thing was about the 5lb pulley. I have read many comments say that 4lb is good with the lightning and 6 is also good but with a 6lb its best to run with a ported blower. Would I be able to get by with a 5 and no port. realize this is just a daily driven truck maybe a track run here and there. Thanks again for the help I'll hit you up later down the road for more help.

5lb is kinda perfect and hell no you dont HAVE TO have a ported SC

If yours wasnt a 03 I might have been able to help you out there, I have an almost brand new Apten Ported Eaton that was on my old 99 for a very short period (I put a Big Bore KB on it immediately when I got it). I also have the C+L Upper for it too. I guess it only fits the 99/00. I like to keep a spare SC but even know I have a 00 mines been upgraded to the later year bolt pattern so it wouldnt fit even if I ever wanted to put an Eaton back on
(like I would ever do that anyway )

Ole Bid Red made @ 500/600 with the Ported Eaton, (heads and cams too)
and @ 600/700 to the rear wheels when I bolted the 2.6 KB on it
But hell my 00 and it's Street Program would walk all over those numbers, WOO HOO !!!

I always recommend 4lb but I personally ran a 4lb lower, 2lb upper, Ported Eaton, and 75-100 HP of Nitrous on a stock block with no prob for years...
AND You sound like you want power so why screw around.
(plus it's a hub and ring set up, you can change the ring "and boost level" ANYTIME by removing some allan bolts, takes @ 15 minutes)

Go for the 6lb Pulley (if you rather go safer, 4lb will still knock your socks off)
The SCT X3
No Idler Pulley for now
NGK TR-6's
160' Stat
(they give you the proper Supercharger Belt and the needed tool)

Idler pulleys are the pulleys your SC Belt is wrapped around. As you add boost and start stomping it more eventually we all experience belt slippage.
Most of us eventually go to larger idler pulleys, the big boys go aftermarket
idle pulley bracket and the larger idler pulleys (and we still slip, hehehe)

I have Both, see that large thick alum looking piece running across, with those big *** pulleys.

What you dont see is the left side of that belt making an immediate left turn just under that left idler pulley.

I also have a Supercharger Bracket running up off of that which braces the Whipple Supercharger Snout. I still find mods on my truck I dont know I have sometimes

Now here's a Magnum Powers Idler Bracket with a totally differant configuration on my old 2002 with a Magnum Powers Supercharger and look how different I have the belts here (those are also oversized idler pulleys)

Safe your money and go for the Bracket in time (they're not cheap and they dont come with pulleys)
I always ran it with 1 less idler pulley that the rest, some use the extra idler pulley some dont. The bracket is really good and configures to pretty much anything you can think of. (but as you see in the picture I still had slippage, hell you can see the black belt dust all over it, but I also had a real small upper and that def adds slippage)

Oh look me 02 was like a virgin and still even had a EGR set up : o () YIKES...

The short answer is def 3.73's.

There are a few with 4.10's, and yes it would make for insane fun on the street, but with 4.10's and a stock block you WILL run out of gear on the 1320 once you get to a certain power level. Plus it'll kill your MPG, plus it will be very hard to get any traction at all on the street. I made the mistake of going 4.10's on my Procharged Stang GT last year and it was clearly too much.... 3.73's are truly perfect for a L for almost any set up.
