Post First fluid change

I am considering changing my transmission fluid with my first oil change. I would like to go all synthetic. I am going with Redline for the engine. Is Mercon ATF synthetic? Anyone try using redline ATF?

Do a search. I was thinking I read somewhere that some guys were having problems with synthetic oil in the transmission. Check into it before switching just to be safe.

I did look into it. Unfortunately, there seems to be a mixed bag of info, good and bad. There was an arguement of synthetic being good and bad. There was even a disagreement between whether Mercon or Mercon V being inside the transmission. I need clarification badly.

Rzk,
Sorry I can't be more help, maybe I read it on nloc.org or svtperformance.com. I know I saw it where somebody had the oil smell like the transmission had been slipping and they thought it was caused by synthetic oil. Maybe you should try putting out a post to Fordtech on this board. He works in the Ford transmission factory and seems to be know alot about them.

Thanks much. I might give Fordtech a try. BTW, you have a beautiful Cobra R. I know it is like comparing apples to oranges, but how does it drive compared to your 01 Lightning? I have a 01 Black Lightning myself.

The Cobra is fun to drive, but not if it is to long of a trip. If you just go out cruising it is a blast. It has complete different manners than the L.
I see you are from Chicago. Have you heard about the Byron meet we are having down there April 8th.? I just picked up a black 01 last week and will be comming down with it. If interested go here: http://www.svtperformance.com/upcoming.htm and check it out. It will be a blast. If you have any questions post here or go into the Cobra R forum on svtperformance.com and post there. I am the moderator of that forum under the name Cobra-R.
