Post What are stock 2001 pulling in the 1/4?

Other than one guy from Plano, Texas pulling a 13.9 1/4 from his 2001, it's been real quite around here.

No one is reporting anything!

The silence is almost deafening, at least someone with good air and temp should be around 13.5 stock?

Unhappy

No kidding! It's it's like all the 2001 owners are afraid to run their trucks at the track!? Don't be shy everyone, lets get some track time people.

My prediction is this:
20 hp more than 99/00, should drop ET average 2 tenths.
3.73 gears (if they can hook it up on the launch with F1's), should drop ET average 1.5 tenths.
So I would guess on the average they will run 2-4 tenths faster than a stock 99/00. I bet the average will be mid to high 13's and the absolute best running ones out there in perfect conditions will run a 13.3. I doubt we will see anyone hit the 12's--I'm talking bone stock and I'm talking real track time slip numbers.
But wait here's a theory (and this will either **** all you 01's off out there, our maybe it will egg you on to go to the track), but maybe, just maybe the 01's are running WORSE times than the 99/00's and they are all too embarassed to post their times!LOL

Peter, you joked that the 2001 might be slower than 99-00.

I posted this thought earlier so I post it again.

Here's a thought for ya. If you build 4000 99 G2's and you have x amount of problems, then you double production to 7500 units. I wonder if your overall quality goes up or down?

Seriously, I don't think that the track times will slow down, but I must say that since all these 2001's where delivered there sure seems to be a lot of new and strange problems posted here!

I posted this because I was hoping that the 2001's would in fact be a new sleeper. I am/was ready to trade my 99 in if true, but for now I'm sticking to my guns that the 2001's are not special. Bolt for bolt the same as the first 2 years minus the increased production faults.

Lightning Version 2.1 - just a bug fix release...

And they need to rack up a few thousand miles to get true times anyway.

I will have my times posted after April 1st. I'm giving my truck to a friend to run in the high school drags at milan here in michigan. I will not be in the seat but the person running will have track experience. I have not added mods yet. I want to get stock 1/4 mile E/T's. Then I will start with the mods and dyno testing. Along with under the hood tempature data at the track. I just hit the 1000 mile mark. I'll let you all knoe how the truck peforms. :d

Question

Went to the E-town meet yesterday and had a lot of trucks show up and run. Everyone was looking for a 01 to show up. One did. It was late. Didn't park near the other L's. Never ran. ???? Probably had a good reason. We are curious. I think they are planning a coup or some other surprise.

Havent seen Strip times but OneRedTXBolt took his Stock 2001 to the dyno with us today and pulled 345 RWHP 421.6 TRQ. Which is significantly more than my 2000 did stock..

More runs here http://www.svtlightnings.com/talon

If he goes with is to Hallsville tomorrow we should get some track results...

Yea. All those C-5's, Vipers and 911 turbos must be real crap then...considering they produced well over 10,000 units of them! What your saying is that Ford sucks in quality control! Gimme a break!

Thank you Silver_2000,

This post of yours proves a lot, I had my 99 with chip and filter dynoed here in Dallas @ 85 degrees and pulled 350 RWHP (325 stock). Now we have a 01 stock @ 50 degrees and is pulling 345 RWHP. While inconclusive I think that the 90mm MAF is good for ~15 RWHP.

MY predictions 01 chipped and filtered 365-370 RWHP, 99-00 chipped/filtered, and MAFed 365-370 RWHP.

Judge I rest my case!

BTW Doug,All those dyno runs look unusually high, I mean way high compared to all the other runs I've seen. When my torque converter locks up I make like 370 RWHP but of course you have to ignore that peak. Can you post the scanned runs sometime soon I’d like to see them?

The stock 99 pulled 330 which is typical, the stock 2001 was about 15 higher which is expected as well. The "Stock" 00 was purchased used and has 2 pillar guages so it may have hidden mods. What makes you think the dynos were off ???

If someone could get the Damned Dynojet software to work you could see the data yourself on your PC .... The numbers are NOT the peaks, the guys running the dyno worked the throttle till they got runs with NO lockup peaks... My truck stock with about 1500 miles dynoed at about 330 it is not unreasonable to see a 40 hp difference with race chip, filter and break in....

Doug

Doug,

Usually chip and filter will get you ~350 -~360 RWHP depends on the dyno.

Leaking intercoolers always exactly ~396.2 RWHP.

lgogether,
Yes, of course I was just joking about the 01's running slower--I'm just trying to get some hype going! Bottom line, the 01's have more advertised hp and torque and I truly believe the advertised numbers are true. What I really believe we will see is a .2-.3 second average faster time for a stock 01 than a stock 99 or 00. And if that trully is the case, then that is excellent for all the new 01 owners. Should a 99/00 owner run out and lay down alot of money to upgrade for an 01 just for the performance gain--my personal opinion is no. Should they do it to get a new truck with a redisigned intercooler and intake tract and lower gears so they don't have to mess with it?--well that might be a different story.
Will there be a quality issue now with production up? Hmm, who knows--I would certainly hope not, but I do know from speaking with one board member who has some inside lines to people at Ford is that they have gone on a major cost cutting measure across the board and I believe that will sacrifice quality, but not necessarily because of the higher production numbers.
I'm just glad we have finally started to see some (very few), but some track times on the board vs the one unbelievable misleading post by another member.

Shorty-
I was the one with the 2001. Yeah, I was VERY late. Yeah, I was going to run (I even went out and bought a helmet before I got to the track...). BTW, I parked in THREE different locations and started conversations with a few people.

So, why did I not run? As stated, I was quite late. Did not get there till around 4:00 pm. By that time, from what I was told, they were doing the 5 Quickest Trucks. Right after that, they did the Group pic (I was in that....last car on left). After that, my GF & I had to go due to other weekend functions.

Also, everyone was so interested in my 2001 being run? Apparently not, since I was asked by NOT ONE other L owner if I planned on running or if I already had.

See, I went to Englishtown mainly to be a part of this great Lightning get-together and meet with fellow owners. I did, however, want to run (again, I bought a freakin' helmet on my way up!). I am quite new to the drag scene (I've only done it twice before in '96 with a same-year Vette). I guess if I prodded and pleaded, I could have had a run in. I did not want to seem pushy.....I am on the quiet and shy side, anyway.

Oh, yeah......BTW, it is MY truck and I'll run her when "I" am ready and comfortable....not when others feel it is time. I am sure most of the Ls @ Englishtown were quicker than mine, anyway. I have not a thing to prove to anyone; however, I will probably go to Atco within the next month or so. If anyone would like to accompany me, I would appreciate it. As I said, I've only done this twice before, and having someone with a little more experience would make me a little more relaxed, I think.

A coup.....???? Don't think so. I don't even personally know any other L owners. I'm just a regular guy with an awesome vehicle, wanting to be a part of the "L" community.

Lou

Lou,
Seems like that is getting harder and harder to do around this site.
