Post 01 Drag Strip Times!!!

Hey!

First, I'd like to thank the people who replied to my Drag Newbie post earlier. They were all a GREAT help! I would've been much more of an idiot without their tips.

Remember, this was my FIRST TIME EVER on a drag strip and have a BONE STOCK 01. Well, okay, I have a bedliner and alarm. Okay, so, enough of that. Here's the numbers from my best of three runs!

1.322 Reaction (.500 is perfect - I suck)

2.162 60' (I heard squealing, must practice)

5.895 330'

8.946 1/8

???? 1/8 mph (meter must've been broken)

13.846 1/4 (woohoo!)

100.40 1/4 mph (woohoo!)

By the way, Danny Swanson was there running his setup. I don't want to give out his times in case he's sensitive about that, but he's a nice guy and very knowledgeable.

Oh yeah, almost forgot - the truck has a little over 2000 miles on it and had 1/2 tank of gas. Weather conditions were cool (around 63 F?) and overcast, negligible wind. Sorry, no porta-weather kit here. :\

Enjoy!

If that 13.846 is uncorrected then that's a dam good time, if not then it's still in-line and respectable.

[humor][fiction]Remember Ford only got a 13.5 with John Force at the wheel in a climate controlled ¼ strip.[/fiction][/humor]

Nope, I didn't beat the other guy. I only won one of my three races, and that was against a 16.08 @ 85.93 Integra with virtually no mods. My first race was against a 13.49 @ 113.20 Trans Am with Stage 2 mods including a new cam. My second run, the one I posted times for, was against a non-streetable mustang with enormous slicks. He ran 12.300 @ 115.55. I was actually amazed that I managed to not be as blown away as I expected. (Great sentence, eh?)

I don't know if my posted times were corrected. I sure didn't do any correcting! I do know that the timer doesn't start until your car starts moving, so my reaction apparently doesn't make a difference. Is that normal? Seemed unusual to me.

Wink

I doubt seriously that the times were corrected if he was running at Carlsbad, which is 44' above sea level.

Wait till it's broke in and you'll be running 13.4's and 13.5's all day long stock.

I must say that I went 13.89@100.15 But that was with 17k on the odometer.

Just give it time to stretch its legs.

Great job on posting honest times.Dont rely on some of these comments about knocking off 3-4 more tenths once fully broken in.Breakin in makes a little difference but not 3-4 tenths,That is not a knowledgable reply.Looks more and more the new owners just dont know how these trucks react at the track and are VERY VERY OPTIMISTIC to say the least!!

Thumbs up

It at least has a 60 or 70 in it,if you can get those 60 ft's down. Still those are nice times and practice will make them better. Good luck!!!

Why do you assume that when someone with a new truck and new to the dragstrip, goes out and makes a few runs, that their times are the absolute best possible that they can attain? You're saying that it's not possible for them to run any faster with better conditions or more seat time in that vehicle? Talk about narrow minded. Wake up.

My first time at the strip I couldn't do better than a 14.72! GRanted it wa a very hot day, & my truck had only 300 miles. It was upper 90's & very humid. Next time out I added a filter only, it was about 70 degrees, & 800 miles. I ran 13.8! I'm sure quite a bit of that was break-in. LLoyd

MID 12s and arrest me red,
Dont put words into my mouth,I know more about these trucks than most of you who are posting this 01 *****.I have had a 99 and a 00 with mods up the a$$ and know how these trucks perform with mods. You 'NEW" 01 owners dont know ***** yet period! I know break in does make a difference anout 1 tenth or so(more feel than anything) but you guys thinkin breakin in is gonna knock off another 4 tenths must be smokin crack!!
I never said that was the best a 01 could do so keep your mouth shut. There is more of a chance that learning how to drive on a track will gain you more than a break in period. You want my opinion,Judging by your 60 fts and taking into consideration break in,Your best stock time at you r local track should be no better than 13.65 which is great but the average 00 lightnings runs 13.8 so your are about 2 tenths just like most of us said.

As for the rest of you ,Youll see me at NEW ENGLAND DRAGWAY this year.I will be the white Lightning with chrome wheels that has been and will be the fastest one there for the last two years..........My attitude in person is much friendlier but then again nobody talks this ***** at the track cause they dont have the times to back them up.I DO!! Except for one guy who claimed his truck ran 12.9 stock and he ran a 14.2.......Track times say it all and untill the get better for 01 owners,You c-o-c-k-y 01 owners (not all of you) need to shut your mouths or put some money up and Ill be there to collect!

Just for the record LQ, I knew you were talking about break-in and not my newbie driving skills. I'm not counting on break-in to change much, but I *am* counting on practice to improve things a bit - especially my reaction and 60' times. I just hope I can afford all that extra tire wear.

One thing about the L, I wish it had manual transmission. While it's easier for a newbie to drag with an automatic, I feel there's not much I can do to improve my times without spending money. That kinda sucks. Plus, I just like the extra control that manual transmission provides. Call me old-school.

I look foward to meeting you this year, and maybee you can give me some tips on how to get the best time possible, I have never run at a track before so any advice will be appreciated.

What mods do you have, and what do you suggest? I have a new filter on it's way, and am planning on a new muffler before I head up there. The exhaust is not to help the performance, I just hope it will get rid of my vibration, and noise at 90 mph that is driving me NUTS.
