Some cheese to go with your whine?
You have alot of opinions and with your attitude, you might be better keeping them to yourself. You get pissy real good.

Thumbs up

Those are about the times I would expect out of a stock 01, if you can get your 60' down to the 2.0xx you will probably run in the 13.6 neighborhood which is exactly what I would expect with the added 20 hp. My 00 ran 14.1 & 14.3's on the first night with 250 miles on the odometer, BUT it was humid and about 90 degrees out and altitude was about 1400 ft. After it was good and broken in it ran 13.8's consistently bone stock on a 60 night at 1250 ft altitude. I contribute 100% of that to the different conditions and ZERO to the fact that I had miles on the truck.
Thanks for posting your times! You'll get better as you go to the track more and more and as you change your tire pressure and get your launch down.

I don't know if my posted times were corrected. I sure didn't do any correcting! I do know that the timer doesn't start until your car starts moving, so my reaction apparently doesn't make a difference. Is that normal? Seemed unusual to me.
Felonius,

Just to answer your question, since no one else did. Reaction Time (R/T) has nothing to do with Elapsed time (E/T). Reaction time is simply a measure of how quickly you and your vehicle reacted to the light on the tree. If you are waiting till you see green you are waiting too long. I usually go as soon as the third yellow bulb lights up. R/T comes in to play during bracket races. During test n tune sessions it's not as important. Hope that helps! Oh and if you find a way to cut a 2.0 60' that .15 off your 60 will be worth about .3 in the 1/4 mile. So a 13.5 or 13.6 is well within the realm of possibility for you. Good luck and enjoy your truck!

Cool

Sounds like you had a good time, and that is the most important thing. My uninformed opinion is that break-in might be worth a tenth or two, but not more than that. But until someone does a controlled test its just that, opinion, and like a$$holes everybody has one. I just hate to see this board degenerate into acrimony because of a minor difference of opinion. I'm pretty much a drag newbie myself, and if Ford ever gets around to replacing my i/c I'd like to come down to Carlsbad and give it a try. Maybe we could meet up and see how an '01 does against a modded '00.

Well im glad to see some people including the person who posted this topic sees my point.Im sure your times will get better and I will personally help anybody at my local track get better times. Its basically tire pressure, the right tiny burnout and how you launch.I will take the time to help you all.I can also point yopu in the right direction for mods,Actually just call JL and thats enough said.

What 4,
for one anybody can be faster than me.I only ran a 12.9 which has been beaten by alot of serious L owners. It just so happens that my driving is a big part in how I did it.All I had was a chip/filter and street tires. How many others can say they did it with those mods?So Ive got to know my ***** huh? Yes I do.Second,If I wanted an 01 for real,I would have one delivered to my door tomorrow morning period.I have the $$ and the connections to do it all for much lesss then the average L price. There is no envy,If I wanted one,I would have one period.I might even get one later this year or next but I just bought a $45k wrecker and I would like to at least make 1 payment on it before I go in deep into another.Matter of fact,My plan is to keep mine for a daily driver/race truck and keep the new 01 or 02 for show and to look at sit in a garage.Why/Because I can...........It just so happens the $45k I spent on a wrecker will make me 70k a year and the 30k Lightning doesnt make me a quarter.I know where my priorities are...There is the right time and place for every toy I just got alot going on right now.

Lightningquick, I see you are in towing too. 45K for a wrecker sounds cheap. what kind? I'll be buying another one this fall. Lloyd

Thanks for those great tips! I definitely do just need more track time. I'm going to work on reaction time, and not going WOT straight from the launch. Hopefully that will keep the wheelspin to a minimum and improve my 60'. People keep telling me to launch on the third yellow, but it just seems so wrong, I can't make myself do it yet! I'll get over it soon, I'm sure.

I'll also try the reduced tire pressure thing. I wanted to run this first time as stock and streetable as possible, to establish a baseline for future mods. I might need another day out there to get a better baseline though, as my first day's out times are probably not the best for that.

Oops, I hear the basketball game's back on, later!

Just for reference.
I run only on street tires so far I have got a way that you can launch with no brake and full throttle right out of the hole. Now it does depend on the track but here is what I do and it got me the 2000 street championship at Ford Fun Weekend this last year in NH and I won out of about 150 cars. This is my technique I have learned and used for 7 years now.
do not go thru the water box.
Put the truck in 1
hold your brake and burn your tires for about 5 seconds at about 2500 rpm to 3500 rpm
do this while feathering the pedal just enough to spit any crap off and heat the tires to temperature (HOT street tires do no good just warm them)then let off the brake and let the tires come to a screaching stop while moving foward.
Stop and punch it quick to see if you got good traction and go to the line trip the lights and go on the (second yellow)(3rd)and squash it.

felonious,

Just FYI, my best 60' time on the stock Goodyears is a 1.975. That was done with the stock ford air in them, at the stock pressure setting. I believe they were at 35 psi. My local dragstrip is not particularly well known for it's track prep either so I think this was pretty good. You may want to try cutting some 2.0's before you mess with pressure. Just my humble opinion.

Hey LQ, I in know way meant anything derogatory to anyone in this thread, I just thought it was funny that you said break in does not make a big difference and right after that LSchicago thought that quite a bit of his time was gained by break in, no flames meant at all, I think very highly of this board, without it I probably would do a lot of mods to my truck that wouldn't do *****, but here I can learn, and share what I learn with others. I don't belive that I am acting ****y and don't appreciate being called what I am not, now if you called my a dumb red necked hick, I would understand that.
