Thumbs up Headers

New phone number for Custom Fabricated Headers by Steve - 734.947.4377. I spoke with Steve the other day concerning different types of headers - this man knows his stuff! Long tube headers seem to be the way to go for the L's. Steve offers them in mild steel with coating or stainless.

Question

What dyno results has he got? What is the cost and does he have cat-backs or connector pipes to the mufflers?
Thanks,

Dan

After reading this post I called Steve and asked about his headers.

First they are just that headers and not a complete exhaust system. Steve seems very flexible in the size and construction of the headers he builds, this definitely is not a bolt on system, not yet. He makes the headers in mild steel ~$900, coated ~$1200, and SS for ~$1400.

One base line 1 3/4 inch header system connected to a Borla exhaust produced 18 more HP and cut .3 off of someone’s 1/4 mile times.

We also talked about a 1 7/8 inch system that he said he would like to build for the Lightning, but hasn't been ably to find anyone willing to have them prototyped/purchased. No figures where discussed for this one, but you could be the next guinea pig if interested.

Steve also confirmed that most people wish for an entire bolt on system and he stated that he's working on an x-pipe exhaust system, the entire thing.

Steve seems quit willing to talk about his setups.

Igogether - Yes, we discussed the same topics as you. Torque is what these trucks need - long tube headers will give torque with horsepower and drivability. The cost is high but so are the commercially available shorty headers that won't make as much useable power.

Dan - I did not ask about timeslips. He will fabricate and install headers and connecter pipes for 1500 to 1700 smackers. That may seem high but consider the install, swear factor and general problems encountered. In the conversation he stated the driver header was 'easy' to install - the passenger header was another story.
