Clunk washers did not work?????
Yep the washer I got from herb didn't work for me. Is there some sort of secret to make them work on the truck or what. I installed them on the drivers side lower control arm, on the back arm. In the slots. I made them as tight as humanly possible also, whats the deal guys.

Killa,
Did you install them on both the front and the back of the control arm?
You did fit the oval portions of the washers into the slots on the control arm, didn't you?

did you grease the steering stops?
pull them out, take a photo or two and post em.
another thought would be to take a colored grease pencil and draw reference marks on either side then drive for a couple days to verify movement..

I know that its moveing on me, but whats the real fix now. Do I just have to weld the washer's to the lower control arm. ford sure did a crap a$$ job with this one.
What makes you say they did not work? (scratches on the black goo/clunking sounds...) I had the dealer fix mine and he used a "star" of some sort and tack welded it to the chassis. But the other day I heard a clunk in the front end in a left turn. There must be some other sourse of a clunking sound other than the slotted bolt hole.
Hope this helps

because it only happens when the wheels turns to far and I can see where the bolt has moved. the slot is to big for the washer, it still slides in the slot. It needs to be welded for the best finish. looks like I'll be at my granpa's shop welding this weekend.
I'm going to weld every single bolt in that damn control arm. I'll fix it.

RTKILLA:
Welded mine also, all 4 places. Stll clunks. Grease the stops.
"I installed them on the drivers side lower control arm, on the back arm."
Should have been in 4 different places, frt and rear of both lower control arms.

so theres no real fix to the clunk at all.
what if I did new upper and lower control arms. would that solve my problem. I hate that noise so much, I can't stand it. to me its a sign of weekness of the truck.

DO NOT WELD!!! GREASE THE STEERING STOPS!! That is what makes the noise. If you weld you also compromise the structural integrity of the swing arm. GREASE THE STOPS!!

For anyone reading this: The clunk at full turn is NOT going to stop by using the washers or welding or anything that has to do with the sliding bolt. THEY ARE 2 SEPARATE PROBLEMS!!!

I have said this before, but it bears repeating.
DO NOT WELD ONTO THE SUSPENSION PARTS.
We do not know the exact material properties of the arm. You might change it enough with the heat from welding to get a failure. The clunk you are hearing is from the steering stops.

Depending on the welding process will depend on whether or not to weld on the lower control arm. Utilizing a TIG will not change the structual integrity of the control arm due to the ability to concentrated heat source.

If you have a lot of miles on your truck the oblong holes might have opened up farther than the thickness on the washers shoulder. When I replaced mine the oval holes were shaped like kidneys. I had to do some minor grinding to get them in. New A arms will not solve the problem, they will move too. Already tried this 9 months ago.
