Post beat by an 01

Met some friends today to watch the Nascar Race. One guy whom I did not know was there with a 01 red L stock with 649 miles on it. We talked and we raced twice. He said it was stock and I checked the computer and it had no chip or air system. He beat me both times from a roll of about 10 mph by two truck lenghts up to about 110. I drove the wheels of of my truck but he was just faster. Get ready!!! My OO has an R9 chip and airaid kit

Head to the nearest dealer and buy a 01, you have a lemon on your hands if a chipped and filtered 00 can't beat a 13.9 second 01 truck?

Maybe you raced one of those special non-Texas 12 second ones.

OK I'm kiding, you experienced the 373's.

I can't say that I "raced" one, but I did have fun with one last night. I walked him a couple of times through traffic between 10 - 60.

Just what I expected, but I have a JL chip/ramair, 373's and 3 air to air intercoolers. His 01 looked brand new so I'm almost sure it was stock.

A 90mm MAF is now a must have item.

You may want to hold on to that lemon.Sport truck mag got a 13.5 out of a stock 01.A roll on at 10 mph should enforce this.

Well, I ran a 13.35 Friday nite with a 1.900 60 ' and just under 102 in the 1/4, so I thought my truck was ok. Maybe I'll get more mods

The 01 had brand new rubber on his, did you? makes a huge difference.

btw, those numbers are only slightly better than the 2yr old test of the 99.

Gotta say, those 01s are FAST!
A friend of mine beat me with his 01 which is bone stock and has less than 500 miles. I have a chip, filter and headers. My truck dyno-ed at 357 rwhp

Nice to see some of the original "old timers" post again.

Methinks, gentlemen, SVT may have released another ringer in the 2001. Member, member when everyone said the 99.5 was under-rated at 360 hp and the truck could not do what it was then doing?

I traded in our 99 Ranger on a new Focus Wagon Friday and got a courtesy drive in a 2001. Please note I was very careful and very respectful of the potential new owner.
In any case, I was impressed. No burnouts or anything, other than a 20 mph to 80 mph sprint not beating the truck at all.

IMHO, they did it again and once the mods get sorted out for the 2001 we are going to see a lot of 12 second Bolts and maybe even better.

Life is beautiful but challenging. Should I purchase my 99.5 when it comes off lease in 14 months and mod it some more or wait for a 2002 which will already approach my lightly modded Moby?

Can't say for sure now. Really don't like the new wheels, though.

mikey88,

I don't know what this all proves, but everything seems normal to me.

00(360hp) + chip and filter(20hp) = 01 stock(380hp)

01(380hp) with 373's should out pull 00(380hp) with 353's.

You lost 40' at 110mph is .25 second @ something over a 1/3 - 2/5 mile. So this would be something like .15 sec in 1/4 mile?

Drop 373's in your truck and it would be neck and neck. He drops chip and filter in(+20hp), no problem you drop 90mm MAF(+20hp), neck and neck again.

Both trucks are the same, nuff said.

lgogether,
I'm with you on the gears once a chiped and filterd 99-00. The 90MAF will not give you 20hp alone. It will help, only if the chip is burned for a 90MAF. If not, it will run lean if you just add a 90MAF. FYI! Not trying to say anyone is wrong here. Just adding a little more insight to the math!

Remember the 01 has a better flowing lower intake and changes were made to the 01 calibration because of the more air and better flow. The 99-00 will always have to do more to get even.

The new calibration is tuned and will work better with aftermarket chips. I hear they were a little conservative to compensate for chips. That's what i hear!!!

I agree Thor01, I still stand behind my beleifs that any properly chipped & filtered 01 will peer into the 12 second range almost every time.Mark my words.

Mondo1,
I agree also, that we will see more 01 L's in the 12's. Ford has had two years to work out the bugs on the L for 01.

They didn't fall short on their goal. In my opinion they new chips were helping prformance gains at the track and on the street. So they gave a little room for the aftermarket suppliers to make packages to fine tune the mods using chips.

It would be a good strategy for Ford to use the suppliers to gain that much more of a Lightning following. That's how I look at it. Just good marketing on their part.
