Your point is well taken, although I believe that your factory base vehicle must hold its own to appeal to every enthusiust, even those(majority) who choose to leave "well enough alone" to preserve the factory O.E.M.'s reputation as "an original" later down the road.I can genuinely appreciate this thinking, by the way.All performance vehicles whether they have been cars, trucks or motorcycles have had their followings as well as their reputations based on what they were..and not what they could be.

Mondo 1,

Mark my words, any 99-00 that's chipped/filtered/90mm MAF/373's will be well into the 12's given good air. Your point is somewhat like saying that the sun is going to rise tomorrow, well if the sun has good air and traction I’ll bet $100 that it does.

FF&MM got 6 hp on a 00 by playing with the air box, so did FORD by playing with the 00’s to create the 01's. But who runs an air box anymore? So some of that +20hp comes back to 99-00's. So your +20hp becomes ~+15.

90mm MAF on a 99-00 who knows, maybe ~10, +15 becomes +5. I like this post about “needing a chip”, that one killed me ROFLMAO, ya think more air and fuel requires a recalibration? I better call my lawyer on that one.

So this lower intake gets you maybe ~+5hp?

I believe the only reason that the lower intake is bigger is for a harmonic issue of its size, which Ford added an extra row to prevent the infamous leaking issues. I'm not even sure that I've heard from anywhere other than this board that it increases power. But I could be wrong, what does it matter if there’s a secret 50hp lurking in there? Someone will fabricate something cheap enough to compensate for the improvement from a 01. Hell Ford charges almost $800 for an aluminum drive shaft, but I just got one right over $200.

I've seen 3 different L's dynoed on the same day and I believe that there was something like a 20hp difference ~313 - ~321 posted on this board. Minus the lower intake, a 99-00 with a chip/filter/MAF will overlap some 01’s with a chip and filter.

I wonder what the quality of the 01’s will turn out to be? If you crank out twice as many 01’s in a given year 7500 do you think the workmanship is going to increase compared to a 4000 unit production run? I not saying that I suspect that 01’s will turn out poor, I just wish the 01’s better luck than my 99.

Now that this hornet’s nest has been kicked around the point is moot. What Lightning any year or generation is even stock anymore. Like I posted earlier I'm more afraid of a G1 than any 99-01 G2. Even sadder I believe is that this engine is pretty much maxed out as it sits and it’s a pig. My crystal ball sees 460ci aluminum blocks with a real blowers tooling around like its older brother G1 in less than a year, or 38 top gun will come up with yet another bizarre turbine/solid rocket/300ci rotary invention.

Igogether, the reason for that post was to verify some disbeleivers of an older thread whereby a member who posted his G-tech times was totally flamed, after now realizing that he was a tenth or 2 off.Yes, maybe he blew it by posting a 60 ft. time, but the fact remains that he was close on his readings..very close.I love all lightnings and I beleive everyone on this website does, but to go for a main artery because of a disbeleif is rude to our members, as I feel everyone can agree.A better approach(reponse) should have been called for.I have a long background and good reputation with a building and tuning muscle cars as well as Fords, but in no way I am an expert with Lightnings and I can't see anybody being that on this or any other Website. This truck is still an infant and is changing already! Lets all realize what this site really is...a classroom. We all have different things to contribute so lets learn from eachother and appreciate this great truck that only comes around once in a great while.

Mondo1,
I've got more info! Ford is not planning on giving a new lower intake with the fix! Just the a new upper with the new intercooler.

They will re-use the supercharger and lower intake. That means they will not get the additional hp the 01 have. The only added bennefit is they will have the 9 row beefed up intercooler instead of the 8 row. That is it!!

KGM,
My parents live in Vegas! Out on Ann rd and 95. I will be ou there soon to see them. Have you been out to the drag facility? I'll be out for the SEMA show also.

When I go i plan on visiting the track, My dads neighbor runs a supercharged C-5 Vett.
Man the weather is nice there too. Lucky you.

Nice weather and roads with no pot-holes. I love that town!!

Kick a chevy's a$$ once for me!

Later.

Thor1..Where did you get that info.Seems like it would be a hell of a lot easier to use the 01 set-up instead of a third type of intercooler, doesn't it? P.S. weather is very warm for this time of year.Found out that Ford started on my 01 today! Makes any day a sunny day.

Thumbs up

I think I'll wait until 03-Like BBQ said Possible new body change, 3 valve heads, etc. Sounds like a sweet set up.
Anyways, I've pushed my 99 L about as far as I can go without NOS and 12.57s in 70 degree weather, on pump gas, AIN"T TOO SHABBY down here in FLA. EITHER!!
I just can't see where that 20 extra hp and 10 ft lbs of torque matters that much. Maybe Ford tricked out the 01 computer where a chip WON'T give you as much bang as it did for the 99s-00s. And of course DON'T forget the 3.73 Gears!! IMHO!!

Wink

To a large extent I agree. But, there are occasionally a Mustang5.0 owner, that refuses to believe what he has read, or just want to see what it can really do. They do stop and talk afterwards, so teaching the young folks respect for their elders, is done in good spirit.
