It was $3.45 a gallon for 91 octane here in the Bay Area (Northern California) and we have a huge Chevron refinery right here in Richmond.

No Rob, I respectively do NOT agree. There is nothing wrong with enabling removing spark, or adding fuel, as those sorts of things are safe. And the current versions of SCT's s/w & f/w allow this degree of granularity to be embedded in *LL3 tunefiles. With limits on even safe adjustments.

Yer pal 'halfbaked', 'halfassed', or 'halfwit', whatever the fek his name was, has a crybaby tuner who locks everything down. And gets all gooey when called on it. Seems to me like he's just too lazy to extend functionality that was paid for.

Ridiculous. Good thang there are at least some tuners not stuck in a era wearing a fur bikini lol.

What's that all about? Some kind of West coast tree hugger $h!t?

How about Jersey? Last time I was up there, some of the Sunoco stations had 100 octane...right at the pump. I remember thinking that was some cool stuff.

With the exception of all the mean spirited comments in this post, I agree. I don't understand how or why it hurts anything to leave the tuner unlocked. Unless the tune is on the ragged edge of safe, it sure doesn't seem like making a minor up or down move with AF or Timing is going to hurt anything.

How much of a variance do these tuners allow when not locked?

Mean-sprited? No - just returning in kind. You'll know unequivocally when I'm truly in a mean-spirited frame of mind

Thanks for agreeing with the technical aspects of my post.

When not locked, the range is anywhere from wide-fekkin'-open to any combination of restriction you can think of - it is amazingly flexible - all it takes is someone willing to invest the time in doing so.

I do NOT advocate a full unlock UNLESS the customer is competent enough to know what they are doing. A LOT of you folks fall into that category, bless you.

I would mostly agree. For a basically stock truck there wouldn't be a big need to have the tuner unlocked. also not speaking about everyone, but a lot of these same people with basically stock trucks just don't understand how delicate an engine is. I'm mostly into old muscle cars so I know how hard it is to make the power that modded lightnings make and still be reliable. At only 330 ci its not even big for a small block. I would worry less about someone who put time and money into their truck because they are more likely to take the best care of it(not always though). When someone is competent enough to pull a blower off, swap pullies, add electric fans etc they should have the option of being able to change a thing or 2. IF THEY WANT TO. Its not like the tuner is going to cover a blown engine either way. Like they say, its all in the tune.
