Question Anyone have any contacts at Garrett?

Am I correct in believing that Garrett in Torrance, CA are the folks responsible for our intercoolers? If so, one would assume that Ford would go back to them and demand that they come up with a fix. Does anyone have any contacts at Garrett who might know what, if anything, they are doing to rectify the problem?

Thumbs up

Why, do you want the SUPRANOS to handle it? J/K

From what I have heard from people at Ford R&D and SVT you are correct. Garrett does make them.
The problem is:
The intercooler JUST SITS in the intake cavity and isn't attached to anything. Now, when the blower makes boost, the I/C starts to vibrate fron the sudden rush of air and over time causes the I/C to wear and crack the welds and thus the LEAK. From what I gathered fron SVT and Ford R&D this past weekend at Bradenton FFW the I/Cs will have brackets that will bolt it to the NEW intake manifold thus PERMANENT FIX?? Who knows? I just read a post yesterday, that an 01 already has an I/C leak. Go figure.
They are do out in april.
So, to all the leaking ones just keep adding water, like I am, until someone gets the NEW I/Cs and we can get pictures.
Atleast that's what I have been told. Truth or Fiction. Who knows??

Dan

Is it okay to run water wetter with the water if you have I/C leak?

I ran only water when my 2 previous ones leaked. No sence in wasting the money and running Water Wetter. IMO

But of course, the Bar's Leak thing seems to be a "band-aid" for some. Mine held for 4k w/ the Bar's Leak.

As for GARRETT, who know's...I'm sure they know about the problem, but yet the designs all seem the same, and not any "beefier" to help against the vibration that Dan is mentioning. WHY NOT??

I took some pictures of my intercooler while the dealer was replacing it. It was definitely made by Garrett, but I'm unsure if it was made in the plant here in Torrance. It bolts down to the manifold with 10-11 bolts. The mounting flange and tanks appear to be prety strong. The leak must have been somewhere in the core, as the outside appeared intact.

If I could figure out how to post pictures, I'd include them.
