Bed Setup
I know this has been covered before, so I'm sorry, But...
I am going to purchase a fiberglass tonneau, and I also want something inside my bed for protection. I know that Bed Rugs are the most popular thing to do with fiberglass tops, but can you also have a plastic bed liner (from the factory) in at the same time? Good/bad idea?
Also, I am looking to spend $1000-$1250, at most. If you want to pretty much tell me what to buy, feel free and voice your oppinions.

You can have both, duraliner type or bedrug. I am about to do the same thing as you, but I am going to bedrug. My biggest question is ARE or Snuglid. Everyone seems split on ease of use. I need to be able to take off the tonneau easily and re-install easily. What did you go with?
I use mine to haul various crap to and from my rental so the duraliner I purchased before learning of this board works out fine.
For the top, a group buy on the Retrax cover fit my needs as risking damage removing/ installing fiberglass tonneaus wasn't worth it.
Very satisfied.

I own an ARE LS-II lid...definately not a lid to be taken off and put back on very often...needs two people definately..heavy lid. The LoPro ARE lid would probably be better for that, but I havn't seen one in person to vouch for it.
Dunno about the snuglid as far as removal goes.

1. I like the BedRug--it looks good in there.
2. If I had to take my ARE cover off by myself, I don't think it would be a pretty sight. It's a heavy rascal, one person would have quite a time unless they had some friends or mechanical devices to help with removal. I don't know what some of the other tops weigh--maybe they would be lighter.
I was just thinking again over the weekend, that if I could have found a retractable cover that didn't require drilling into the bed for mounting, I would/should have gotten one of those.
At one time, I even entertained the idea of a spray-on liner (too permanent for some folks) with a retract. top. This seems to be the ultimate in "useability" -- but, that's why they make so many products these days, just to drive me crazy(er).

I just got a new Snuglid with the snug grip feature (no drilling). Though i haven't taken it off yet, it looks pretty easy to do. Just remove a couple retaining clips and pop the gas shocks off then lift it off.

Be aware that the factory bedliner is not going to work well w/a hard tonneau cover. the front of the liner has these vertical grooves in it that prevent the tonneau mounts from fitting up flush to the front of the bed. I found this out the hard way when I installed the tonneau. I ordered the BedRug and never looked back. IMHO I think it is an absolute must have for a Lightning.
PS: It makes sleeping in the bed like sleeping in a bed (as in mattress).

I think I am going to take the financial plunge and order Clonetek's tonneau and a bed rug, sometime after Spring Break. I gotta see how much money I have after Cruisin'...
