Post Lots Of Q's From Possible Newbie 01 Owner

hey guys, great site! only been here a few days but I've learned quite a bit and its a great place to hang out.

Long story made short. I'm a mustang guy, I know the aftermarket stang scene like the back of my hand but I will admit im very overwhelmed trying to figure out the lightning scene which is very new to me. Hoping to pick up a 01 Bolt in the next couple weeks and have roughly $5000 to spend on mods. I've read the FAQ but would like to get 1st hand reports on what works and what doesnt....voiding warranty with chips, pullies etc is NOT a concern so anything goes (no NOS though . The L would be a daily driver but would see the 1/4mile probably once or twice per month.

i'd like to apologize because im sure this matter has been beat to death but I'd really appreciate any help you guys could give my pathetic newbie self

LightningQuick,

thank you very much! Yes i was expecting to get the "go use the search function" response, but thank you for taking the time to help me out.

Dont really know what to say but I think the Lightning bug just bit me in a bad way, especially after seing the total prices of the mods you listed!!!!

Both of the local SVT dealers have 5 01 L's each sitting on their lot, im very torn between the red and black.

thanks for the help

If you want maximum eye appeal but maximum maintenance, go with black. Otherwise stick to red. My L gets washes/cleaned up every single day, but it looks great!

as far as maintenance goes with the black paint thats not really a big issue for me. I'm big into the Zaino car polish thing, and spend way to much time keeping my vehicles clean.

Right now I'm leaning towards Red but I have yet to see a 01 black lightning that has been shined up..all the ones at the dealers near by have not been washed or prepped, actually there is one in the showroom but I have not got a good look at it as I was there after hours and could not get a good glimpse of it through the window.

decisions decisions

by the way, i've seen lots of arguements about what color is the fastest...so which is it haha

BlackLight, i've actually been looking at your photo album all morning. Damn fine looking truck you got there.

Do you happen to have any good direct side photos of it?

thanks

Hey 99DECH,

Finally some new S. Ontario blood. I'm guessing that you're near me if you've seen a Black L in a showroom, Parkway Ford perhaps?

Anyway, give me a shout if you're not wanting to give away your location to prying eyes:

twood@wipi.ca

I know quite a bit about the problems of the Lightning and what to look out for. Also have tried many chips, MAF's etc.

Look forward to talking with you.

Got my '00 red at Eastway and they should either have or soon be getting a white '01 that was ordered for me. Not taking it though.

I am in the process of getting some problems sorted out on a red '01 or waiting for the next one. My '00 is now on its way to the States if I'm not mistaken. Feels kind of weird thinking I own a Lightning when in fact I'm in limbo. (insert sad face here)

Somebody always has to say it..."Black is the Fastest color, or, the Correct Color. Black looks good especially with a 20% tint on the windows.

Hey 99DECH, nice to see another Canadian owner. Hope to see you at Cayuga this summer.

LQ, he may need the whole 5G's, considering the exchange rate of our Canadian peaso(sp?)

I saw a silver one at the car show last month. WHAT04 posted a picture of it. If I had to chose again it would definaletly be silver.

My .02:
I've worked part time (I'm a full time student) at a car wash for the past year. My experience with car colors are this:
1. Black is awesome looking clean, but it gets dirty as soon as your done and go park it somewhere. Also, swirl marks seem to show up REALLY bad on black.
2. Red is cliche, but easy to keep clean.
3. White is somewhat like black, but swirl marks don't seem to show up.
4. Silver is BY FAR the easiest to keep clean of the Lightning colors. I live in snow country and after driving in slush for a couple days, you don't look awful like you would in black/white. Silver is the best color for keeping clean and maintained.
