Talking Let's stir things up a bit!!!!

After looking at CA's post about migraines and people telling her marijuana helps with them I wondered something about all the people on this site. Do you think marijuana should be legalized, not just for medicinal use but like cigarettes? I personally think it is no worse than cigarettes.

Just to make one thing clear, I have never smoked it in my life. By the time I was old enough to get any I was in the military and that is a big no no. I doubt I would have anyways. Also, I am in no way condoning, or condemming this action, I was jsut wondering.

Since I'm the one who posted the suggestion to WhiteLightninSVTGirl, I guess I should respond.
1) No, I do not smoke it or advocate it for recreational use
2) I have once and learned I was alergic (21st birthday present)...cut off my windpipe, 911 calls...ugly scene...
3) I advocate only for TRUE and PROVEN medicinal purposes
4) I think it is worse that cigarettes and alcohol (on the sobriety stand-point). I'm sure I'll be corrected here by the more "informed": One can drink 1 alcoholic drink and not be drunk. One can smoke one joint and WILL be stoned.
I'm sure I'll hear all about the "tolerance" level...dead issue in my mind. THC has no tolerance effect to the user. There is a perceived tolerance by the user (come on, they are stoned for christ-sake).

Just my opinion...in the mean time, it is illegal in most states.

mj is the gateway drug that leads to the more risky/deadly drugs....and for that reason only...it shouldn't legal.

It was a lot more fun in my younger years when you could smoke as much as you wanted, get somewhat high and go dine out at Burger King for a couple of hours.

The last time I tried any, and that was a few years ago, I got so stoned on a shared joint, that I was barely able to function. Way, way uncool.

If we were to start this whole thing over, alcohol and cigarettes would be illegal, as would any other currently banned substance.

I say no.

I got nailed during the paraquat days; at least I think I did. I was hospitalized for 3 frickin' days. It really screwed me up. Pot always, and I mean ALWAYS made me paranoid. I only smoked it to be cool like my friends. It's all crap....all of it. Live life sober and you will be better off for it. There is somewhere in the Bible (watching the new DVD release of Ben Hur and getting kind of religious now) speaks of occasional wine to sooth a troubled heart. That's ok with me.

You won't see it be legal until the government figures out a way to regulate and tax it like they do alcohol. Once they figure out a way to get their cut it won't be such a big deal anymore.

To add additional complexity to the mix - if pot is considered a gateway drug, should beer be considered a gateway drink?

And no I don't smoke pot, or take other drugs but I do have a beer now and again.

I do not use any drugs including pot but...........

I feel you should not be able to drive while on it but I do feel t should be legal. It should be regulated like alcohol. In my eyes its the same as ciggarettes which I hate but if its legal so should pot be.this way it nobody would get bad weed and get hurt. Also do you ever hear of a stoned person going into fits of rage?? Not nearly as many as drunks.

Cool

I certainly don't believe that MJ is a gateway drug. That's the same line of BS that they have been pushing since MJ became very popular (60's?). What made it bad was was the acid freaks. They would talk about doing acid and inevitably, the question would come up: "So, have you done any other drugs?" Answer: "Oh sure dood, I smoke weed often...heh..heh-heh".
I don't ever see it becoming legal (the government has certainly figured out how to tax MJ...please...a revenue generator...) for the simple fact the sobriety is uncontrolled.
MADD and SADD fortunantly saw to that.

Point is still: it's illegal to possess, smoke, sell, transfer, distribute. Just say NO.

Ill chime in on this one too. (1)I dont think it is a gateway drug.(2) I am also farmer, there for I would love to grow and market something I could make some money on. (3)I have also got glaucoma and have lost 90% sight in my right eye. Would like to see if i could stop taking drops 6 times a day( for the rest of my life) and not lose anymore sight to this ****ty disease. As for the danger of using I think smoking and drinking is by far more dangerious.

Angry

Let me preface this by stating that I do not use any illegal drugs, so I don't have any axe to grind. Unless it is somehow relevant to the public safety, however, the government does not have any business telling me what I can or cannot ingest. The "war on drugs" is the most expensive and ridiculous boondoggle the feds have yet devised. It only serves to keep prices up so you are more likely to have your stereo ripped off. Even the definition of "drug" is purely arbitrary, alcohol and tobacco are both powerful psychoactive drugs that are addictive and physically harmful. For anyone seriously interested in researching this topic I recommend "Ain't Nobody's Business If You Do" by Peter McWilliams, and "Smoke and Mirrors" by Dan Baum. I could go on at great length, but it would only drive my blood pressure up, and I might have to take a drug to lower it.

I will agree that the government knows how to tax pot but their problem is they can't control the origination point and distribution of pot like they can alcohol.

People can and do make their own alcohol products but how many people do you know that take the time and effort to do it. Some but not all that many. Pot on the other hand only needs some light, water, little dirt and a little time. Next thing you know you have a couple of real nice plants that the Feds have no way of knowing about. How many people have access to light, water and dirt?

The war on drugs is about money and who's getting it, not what you chose to burn and inhale.

Remember hearing about prohibition?

Where I come from GRANDMAS grow it in their backyard and use it to make medicinal tea!!

Rastafarians use it as a holy sacrament, although this has been greatly commercialized and blown out of proportion.

I don't consider these things to be "drug abuse."

A lot of kids think its a way to get f'ed up, watch tv and pig out. "Get stupid." That is what I call abuse. But anything can be abused. Even Windex.

My brother and his friends are all lawyers and they all smoke it, then prosecute people for smoking it the next day. I think the fact that marijuana is illegal is another example of BS politics and propaganda - "the game."
