Question SVT Lightning Question

I seriously considered purchasing a Lightning and the only reason I didn't was because it was a standard cab only.

Are there plans in the future to make a Lightning SuperCab or SuperCrew option that you have heard of?

I know you guys probably do not want that many Lightning's out there, but it would shoot the sales up (IMHO).

Thx.

No.

Get a Harley Edition and bolt on an aftermarket blower.

I seriously hope that Ford has enough brains not to produce a vehicle like that to put in the hands of and excuse me for sounding so bad, but--the typical yuppie yam SUV type driver. Here in Phoenix, the streets are absolutely flooded with way way way too many Suburban and Expedition and extracab trucks that are driven by Mom's and the like full of kids, talking on their cell phones, yelling at their kids, tail gating other drivers because they feel like they are driving a big truck, when in reality they are driving a modern day station wagon. Most of these people should drive a minivan which is more practical, but won't because they want the image of driving a truck. There are alot of people I work with that have said they would love to buy a Lightning, but wished it came in an extra cab so they could haul the kids around. Thank God they don't make it in an extra cab version so that a family can't be transported in a vehicle like that. The Lightning is a specialty vehicle designed to target a specific market place. I don't think Ford has any intention of targeting a different market sector with a Lightning extracab.

I'm probably pissing off alot of people who are reading this, and I apologize for that. And by no means am I flaming you on this post. You've probably have good reason for wanting an extracab, but the general marketplace buyer that would need an extracab probably should not own a Lightning type vehicle.

Sorry for the long post and the negative attitude, but just expressing my opinion.

Cool

murfster, I'm in the same postion as you. I really need a supercab to haul my motorcycle gear but on the same note I really want a Lightning. Getting a Harley is not worth it IMHO. Getting a aftermarket blower for my truck is more reasonable. If they ever come out with a Lightning w/ supercab or just a little extra room behind the front seats I'll be there right away!

I realise this is a little silly, seeing the truck already weighs 4600 lbs, but I like the fact that it is so slim and trim as you can get in a full size pickup. I am sure you can get all kinds of mods done to a SuperCab/SuperCrew, but you will not see me in one of those.

The easy one first: Peter B - two words: Fluoxetine=Prozac

(just kidding...don't want any boyz from out west knocking on my door)

I do have legitimate need for the SuperCab (not necessarily on the SuperCrew) and not family or soccer ball related, but work related on both my jobs. I have a car for the "family" activities (even though I don't have a family).

It does bring some interesting thought though. If the thought is that the Lightning is a "sports-car", much like the 'Vette, 911, etc (I did not mention the 'Stang because I do not consider it a sports car) then I understand.
If it's still considered a truck, then I am at a loss to understand the logic.

webmaster: umm...I'm fairly new to the "sporting" (read: fun...mods, etc) of the F-150's and am not sure what a DW event is. The more I learn about my truck and other peoples trucks, the more fun it is.
I have noticed many F-150's now than I did before basically because I am now looking at the truck as fun as well. Yes, the boyz down here love their trucks.
I am trying to get the f150online.com sticker and get McDonough on the "technology" map for their trucks. We'll see.

F150IslandBoy: whew...glad I wasn't too off base there. I had a feeling that I might get slammed (Peter B I know it wasn't meant to be a flame). I honestly didn't buy the truck for that exact reason...standard cab. TO ME (<--read, my opinion) a standard cab looks cheap regardless of who makes it (although anyone noticing it's a Lightning will know better).

Sorry if I ruffled a few feathers...

Sorry, I thought that the event was like the second-coming down there.

Darryl Waltrip spoke to about 2000 people last night, it was sponsored by my friend's church group.

As far as the decal goes, just toss a stamped, self-addressed envelop in the mail and you will have it in a couple days...

webmaster: thanks for schooling me, now I know (and should have known) what the DW event is.
Actually, it should have clicked. As you probably already know, the coming of the Mesiah normally happens 2nd week of March and 2nd week of November (last race of the season).
It is incredibly maddening as far as traffic goes, but it is a very fun event. To give you an idea: I have to work the vicinity of the race tonight, tomorrow and ALL day Sunday (6:30-->last car leave the lots).
I haven't been allowed to miss the races since 1994 (not complaining though). Neat thing, I can usually catch some of the race and I have unrestricted access to everywhere (might clue you in to what I do).

Take care...I'll keep an eye on the F-series trucks while you guys enjoy the race.

BTW...I just read how I'm supposed to get the decals from the home page. Thanks!

murfster,
Good advice, hmm, I used to do the Zoloft thing--maybe I should resume.
Glad you didn't take my post wrong. It's just a sore spot with me about all the stuff I wrote. I hear see your needs. I don't have children, but have need for an extracab, so I've also got a Dodge (first last and only Chrysler product I will own) with the quad cab for my snowmobiling, ATVing and watercraft needs.

Unhappy

I'm a new L owner and I would really like to have more room in the cab. I don't think that violates any L ethics or philosophies. The only reasons I can see why they use the standard cab are less weight and a shorter wheelbase (better weight distribution?). I would love to have just an extra foot or two behind the seats to toss my jacket and backpack into.

Felonious,
You are correct on the reason Ford only makes a short bed, standard cab L. Weight distribution and overall weight. It improves handling. There were probably some asthetic considerations also.

Can't picture an expanded cab L. If I need to carry extra gear, I put it in the bed...Figured that is what it is for...
