I think people want to protect the oringinal concept of SVT and keep the Lightning exclusive to those who don't want/have to compromise.

I think the trailer hitch is ridiculous but that is just me. Everybody has got their own deal and a right to express it. Put it out on a public forum and you will get responses all over the board.

Do like me; by a Lightning and keep a beater around for all the day to day stuff.

Cool

I agree with Jeff24. Go check out a ROUSH or STEEDA F150. They have the subercab and they are lowered and you can get the supercharger on them if you want. They are great looking trucks and turn just as many heads as Lightnings.

I personally would jump at the chance for a SCrew with the L engine, but I don't want an extended or SCrew Lightning. It's a subtle point, but IMHO, a SCrew or ECab will never handle as good as the regular cab L. To try to make it do so would compromise it's purpose so that it wouldn't be a good family vehicle-- and it wouldn't be a good sports truck.
Now before all you extended cab and SCrew afficionados flame me and claim the long trucks can be made to handle like a Vette, remember, Ford doesn't make them that way.

Dodge makes an R/T extra cab truck that is reported to be just a good as an L. Well, at least it's an extra cab if that's what you want.

Anybody know when the 4 door Z06 will be out?

The Lightning is a "sport Truck" and should ONLY be made in the standard cab form. I would not have bought it if it had be an extended cab or SC. IMHO, I think anything but a standard cab would look UGLY! As far as putting a Lightning engine in a HD or supercrew cab, it really wouldn't be a good idea. You would have the power of the L without the handling ability. Definitely unsafe. If you need to haul kids around, get a second car/truck. that what I do. Besides, you don't need the performance of the L when you're hauling family around anyway.

If you guys are so worried about going fast in a truck with an extra cab. Then let's just throw out the idea that ford has about making an SVT Expedition. Who would buy that? I know you would. And quit flaming on murfster. Thats all.

I live about 20 miles from the Dearborn area and I can say this, there is a prototype of a super-cab Lightning running the streets every now and then. Also, at the Woodward dream cruise last summer, there was an SVT Expedition called the Thunder. Car and Driver ran a test of the Thunder a few months back. Now if only that was 4 wheel drive, I'd have something for the winter. NOT!!!

Seriously though, the Super-cab Lightning would probably weigh about 500-1000 pounds more then the standard cab version due to the extra metal in the frame and cab. They would have to re-tune the suspension for the different weight bias front to rear which would alter the handling so I wouldn't hold my breath for that thing to come out. As for the Thunder, SVT has only said that it was a designing exercise and not slated for production.

I think SVT has done a really good job targeting the markets that they have set their eyes on. The original L was to go after that 454SS. The Cobra I feel is one great car except for the insurance. The Contour/Focus is going after the rice rockets and only time will tell what the Focus will do to them. Keep up the good work SVT!

As far as an SVT family wehicle, just throw an SHO V-8 Taurus engine in a Windstar and SVT will have everyone in the market covered.

Well, yes, having a bed is good for big heavy items, but my jacket would fly out and I'm not so sure about my backpack either. Unfortunately, I'm unable to get a tonneau cover due to finances. Therefore, my desire for a bigger cab. Though I do admit, I wouldn't give up the handling for it, so I guess I'd better just shut my mouth, eh? That's what I love most about the L - they're well-balanced vehicles.

In fact, I'd go so far as to say a Lightning is the perfect vehicle, at least for me. Believe me, I soul-searched for months, trying to find a less-expensive alternative that would do everything I wanted (get my motorcycle to the track, good handling, braking, and of course a strong engine). I could've gotten a cheap used sports car, but I could never get my bike to the track with it.

So, now I'm a new L owner.

Well, if you can't spring for a tonneau cover I doubt if you have any business buying a Lightning; these things cost a lot more to operate than a regular truck. I think the best comment was made by the guy who compared an extended cab L. to a 4 door 'vette - right on! The Thunder was a one off concept vehicle, it will never be produced. Can you see a soccer mom driving a 380 hp Expy full of kids, especially in the rain? Recipe for disaster. But if Ford did decide to make it I wouldn't give a rat's @ss, my L. would still run circles around it. But as far as the hitch being ridiculous, I tow a 6500 lb. boat with mine; try that with your RT.

Let me get this straight alphadoggy, if I can't afford to spring for a tonneau cover, I have no business owning an L. I'm not following the logic there...help me out.

I certainly didn't ask my question so folks can flame other peoples opinions. felonious seems to me to be an L owner, and now you are trashing his ability to own one.

I'm not sure that the L you have deserves the pedestal that you have put it on. There have been SUV's produced in the past that you might not be able to touch (remember the Typhoon?).

My bet is that Ford will produce an SCab version, but I have been wrong before. If (and when) they do, I'll be first in line. I love your trucks and might have to do the Roush or Steeda thing to satisfy my craving to get close to your performance trucks.

Thx again...~m

Thumbs up

I appreciate the comments, you guyz (galz too) are pretty serious with your "L's" when it comes to being exclusive. I have to say though, as with most vehicles, there will probably be a SCab version. I can imagine the rework and they might have to bump up the HP so they can at least be comparible to the existing L.
I certainly understand that the existing L probably handles just like a sports car (I really want to drive one). The posted times here are amazing for a pick-up.
I certainly disagree that an SCab configuration with the HP/Torque and handling of existing L would be unsafe. The SVT guyz certainly are sensative enough to the safety aspect of building their cars (especially in todays over-litigated world). I'm sure they would build it safe (as safe as you can do on a truck pushing 400HP).
I never thought of ROUSH or the STEEDA SCab trucks, that's a thought...Thanks!
Carrying my gear in the bed...I'm also looking for convenience as well.

Thanks...patiently waiting for my 4dr Z06... heh...eating a Snickers...
