A trail of black smoke when you gun it is so exotic. I also just love the sweet sound of a front end loader! The constant sound of a bad engine knock just turns me on! I'd drive a Chevy.... cavalier.... before I drove anything diesel!

LOL...you're in good luck. No smoke on 08+ diesels. You'll still make more torque than your Lightning and won't smell or see a thing. Heck, the knocking noise is even gone.

You'll see a ton more diesel's in the US over the next 10 years.

UMMM, am I in a lightning forum??? It started off like I was but quickly turned into a diesel forum.

The next L motor is going to be a gas V8 not a diesel. Don't tell anyone I told you.

With all the technology today, you can be fast but still be clean and fuel efficient. For ex. a Z0-6 is one of the cleanest engines on the market, is insanely fast but still delivers close to 30mpg. That's impressive.

A Viper uses more than twice the amount of fuel to generate the same power. Obviously low tech and totally unnecessary. That POS should be banned IMO.

You're just biased .... LOL

Those 'Vette's can't even run away from a farm truck ...

Every single year, all the internet insiders "know for fact" that next year their putting this diesel in that truck and this diesel is going to make 2 million hp and 100 million ft/lbs. They are going to be super quiet and not smoke. Guess what. I've been reading it for years, and you can still only get a diesel in a super duty. It still smokes, it still rattles, and they still suck compared to the old 7.3 powerstroke. Give me the low end power and the reliability of the 7.3. Give it to me now. Put one in an F150. Put one in a Ranger. Put one in a focus and a crown vic. Blah blah blah, I'm sick of diesel talk that doesn't come true, especially in a LIGHTNING forum!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you seen or driven a new 08 Superduty? No smoke, no rattling, and drives like a Cadillac. Very nice trucks. I love mine....as much as my Lightning.

I wouldn't bet on a diesel Lightning but in Europe 55% of all vehicles sold are diesels but fuel in North America is still too cheap and diesels have a perception problem. But we are getting there. Our diesel is also so dirty, the European cars can't run on it. That's the main reason they can't bring those cars over.

If you have a chance, test drive the new Mercedes diesels which will also appear in Chrysler and Jeep products. The german brands are about to introduce several diesels including a V12 turbo in the new R8.

You caught me. I'll admit, I'm totally biased...

It just shows how much of a difference a NUT behind the wheel can make... My strategy is when at a disadvantage, scare and intimidate. My red grill (which often fills their entire back window) has sent chills down the spine of many fancy sport machines.

Welcome back buddy!

Hah, I remember hearing the same thing at Ponoco raceway. "Don't follow to close, the other drivers are scared of you". lol.

Too many people have seen movies with "runaway trucks" with crazy drivers, going down a mountain with no brakes at break neck speeds...

The only thing I'm missing is a Peterbuilt emblem in my big red grill.

A ZO-6 is an impressive car, but it hardly is all because of the engine.

The car weighs around 3100 lbs. - that is why it is so quick.

It is VERY aerodynamic - that is why it is so fast.

It has a steep overdrive in a manual tranny - that is how it gets 28-30 MPG. (BTW - It will only manage that while cruising, with the cruise control on, on relatively flat ground, at no faster than 70 MPH or so.)

I have enough drive time to know these things for a fact...

As far as diesel's spewing black smoke, a properly tuned and maintained diesel will spew no smoke at all...

I agree - Vipers suck !!!
