What's the Deal with the JDM Pulley
I am a current member, but felt as if I needed to protect myself from retaliation from a certain few, thats the reason for the name change.
I currently have paid for a lower pulley from JDM ENGIINEERING and was charged for this back in January. I cannot figure out what the delay is, why were we charged with no product? I understand its 3 more weeks, but how can I be sure. Why were we told by Jim@JDM that they weere 13 shipped on that list, but no one has one?
I have contacted Spiiro. but he tells me that he no longer works for them. I dont understand why, and he will not say. I find it very strange, anyone else? He simply tells me to contact some guy Rob at JDM for more information.
I have done research on this company, and it seems that there are a few of unsatisfied customers. I am not trying to start anything, I just want what I paid for!!.Am I the only one feeling there is more to this than were being told? I'm sorry, dont mean to **** anyone off, but with Spiro gone it seems worse.
Spiro, care to reply here for us?

I got enough problems as it is, I gave up on my pulley and opted for the 90 mm mass air. You know life just has is ups and downs lately, and I can't take anymore of it. forget about the pulley until its in stock. thats the only thing that has gone right today for me, they got the 90 in stock. thanks fro the help Rob. later
I got fed up with the wait and cancelled mine last week. My credit card was billed the 1st week of January. I talked to Jim on Monday and got his side of the story on what was going on, but there are always 2 sides to a story and the truth somewhere in between.
if you go to svt.performance.com and read the JDM page you will find out everything you need to know about the pulley delays. I am glad that Jim is not willing to ship a flawed product (unlike Ford and intercoolers) and I am willing to wait until it is made right. If you're that impatient maybe you should trade your Lightning in on something that has had more R&D time, like a Taurus.

Go to SVTperformance.com for any updates that JDM will give out. He has 3 fourms over there.
But, this is what was writen over there. The 13-18 pulleys that went out where the only ones that were made to spec. After those were made, there was some sort of problem with the machinest, and Jim had to change to a new one. Now that they are at a new one, they have to make sure that they can make the pulleys to spec, and then they have to MAKE the pulleys. Once they are made, then they have to package all of them. And then ship them out. Jim also stated that he would NOT send out a inferior(sp?) product, and I for one am glad he feels that way. I do not work for JDM, nor do I even know him, but I do know that he works very hard, and also know when one posts on any of his fourms, he propmtly answers. Hope this helps. Sorry for the long post. And there is a link to the other site in my sig.

This is totally from memory, but someone here posted that JDM is having unforeseen quality control problems for this product. Seems like the prototype part is easy enough to machine, but to mass-produce the product introduces some sort of design flaw. I guess the tolerances are too hard to obtain when stamping the product?!?

To everyone who has ordered a pulley--
I have spoken to most of you on the phone in the last couple of days. To those I have talked to, I thank you for your kind words and understanding.
JDM is 7 weeks behind on the delivery of the #2 lower pulleys. We've had two different machining issues on the pulleys which is the cause for the delay. I will not release a product unless it meets OEM standards.
The current design of the pulley is correct and the only way these pulleys should be made. So, we are sticking with this design, and changing machine shops. I've already had my first meeting with the new machine shop, which went very well. I feel very confident in this company. We will fitting a prototype pulley Monday. He is only a few miles from our facility so I will be able to oversee production on a daily basis.
This means that it will be an additional 3 weeks before the pulleys are made, anodized and ready for shipping. For those of you who have already paid and don't want to wait, please contact us at 732-780-0770, we will gladly refund you immediately. We're very sorry for any inconvenience this delay may have caused.
For those who still want the pulley, thank you for your patience and understanding.
There were 18 pulleys made in the first run that were perfect. We've installed a few in our shop and we sent out the rest. Don't worry, they were perfect, otherwise they never would have been sent out. We currently need to ship an addtional 43 pulleys.
Thanks,

Its just bad business to take the money and make a customer wait. Part not available then you DON'T get my money until it is, its that simple. Delays can come unexpected but if you sell more than you have in stock, your setting yourself up for failure.
It should be a quality product and customers will wait, just don't take thier money until its "ready".
Just my $.02, not aimed at JDM or anyone else.

I've spoken with Jim a couple of times over the phone over the last few weeks about the pulley and 90mm MAF. He sounded like a perfectionist to me that refused to tarnish his reputation with a so-so product.
I don't know the man, but he sounded very frustrated that things have gone this way for him and us. I almost got the feeling he wished he had never gotten into this pulley GP. He said he has done "private" work for many years and did work (R&D I believe) for Ford and just went public.
Well, I want my pulley too. But, you guys have to remember, this is a fairly critical piece of equipment. I, myself, do not want some out-of-balance, poorly clearanced POS. If it's not up to par, I feel the front main crankshaft bearing could be easily destroyed. And none of us want that.
As far as Jim's honesty/credibility goes - Well, I know JL (Johnny Lightning) from many, many e-mails back and forth and JL knows and trusts him. JL is not only a great guy, he's a great person. And I trust JL when he says JDM WILL deliver. So, I feel better and will gladly wait for a great product.

Lisa, I have had to wait on PSP products also but I was PATIENT for them because I was never charged for them until they were shipped. From my call with Jim,I sense that he very sincere in what he sells and I would purchase from him in the future when he gets things squared away. I am still PATIENTLY waiting on a throttle body that I paid for 2 months ago from JDM through Spiro. Ford doesn't make intercoolers and anybody who is not happy with their trucks could always go get a Taurus.
I was the very first one to order both the pulley & TB from JDM. I'm hoping to receive them both soon. Others have received theirs, yet I ordered FIRST. I'm patiently waiting. I ordered PSP's electric fan kit about 3 weekks ago, still waiting on that too. It's the busiest time of the year for these guys, & I wouldn't want to be in their shoes. They are both backed up. I ordered My TB on December 5th! I'm hoping there are no "favorite playing" and I am next with JDM, SINCE I SHOULD"VE BEEN FIRST. Rob at JDM is Rob G on this board.

I chuckle with amusement. I too am waiting for my pulley, and I even drove 6 hours to get it, only to screw the first one up when my harmonic balancer bolts came unscrewed and "screwed up" the pulley. I chuckle because I understand how producing modified parts works. It truely takes time to modify vehicles the right way. If you do it wrong, you are in a world of hurt. It has taken over 2 years (and still waiting) to retro-mod my 500hp corvette!! Jim is just trying to do it right, and it takes time. I too want the pulley now!! But it takes time and I would much rather give Jim a week or two(or month or 2) to double check everything. Its not like he is sitting around laughing while we are waiting for the parts.
It has always helped me to look at the big the picture. In a year from now, would you rather have a part 1 month early and not be sure of its quality, or glad you waited that extra month and know you have the best pulley available? Be patient, time slips will wait. Take good care of your investment, that's all Jim is trying to do.
