Question Winter L survivors

To those of you who live with snowy winters and had to drive your L, can you give me an idea of how you fared and what you did to the truck (weight added, snow or offroad tires) etc? I've looked at the faq and it looks like it manageable but I'm looking for some more feedback.

Thanks,

Future L man

I added a set of these:

mounted on the 16" steel Ford wheels.

Stay out of the throttle and brake early. No weight added and it was fine. Went up to Bamf with the wife and our 2 year old, lots of fun.

Light snow, no problem. When it gets 3" or more I have a set of 16" wheels with studded snows, it helps a lot. When it gets deeper I add weight. I could use some snows for the front-get bad understeer.

Don't like to but have no choice presently.

Removed chipenfilter for one...

I run/ran BF Goodrick Comp T/A's on 17" expy rims, (3) 50 pounds of H2O softener salt (covered), and a 2 x 8 "crossmember" holding 6 cinder blocks lined across the end of the bed against the tailgate (perfect fit).

Same as Blacklight as far as driving. easy on the gas, off early, brake gently, no sudden movement, patients, etc.

No spins thus far (uncontrolled that is).

I've got a 4.10 gear and the L was awsome for Winter use with a regular set of F-150 wheels and tires. Stay off the Eaton and all is well.

Hey speedintom, where are you from up in Indy? I lived there for quite a while up in Carmel/Westfield and really liked the city. Too bad I was working for conseco and they were tanking so bad I had to move...

Thanks to everyone for the info.

slowsuv,

I live in Pike township near Eagle Creek Park and 10 minutes from 16th & Georgetown.

Too bad about Conseco "Stepping Up", booting Hilbert, and tanking their stock in the process. I knew a lot of folk that lost a chunk of change in that one....

If you have ANY doubts about buying an L, drive one. Bet it changes them....

Regards,

Fast Robert

I live in Denver. I always drive my L. Chip and all. I know her limits and I don't push them in this weather and I have yet to have a problem. Knock on wood.

I've got these tires on mine right now:

Dunlop Winter M2 Sport

They've been great...like above, lay off the boost and you'll be fine.

I park it in the garage. But then I have three 4X4 trucks I can drive.
Too many other idiot who can’t drive. I know, I’m making a great living fixing them.

Speedin Bob - I did have an apartment for a while at 56th (?) directly across from Eagle creek and next to the Colts. I hear you about the stock as I took a good hit too. Anyways, you wouldn't happen to know any dealers over there willing to deal on 01's?

Thanks!

Not driving it is the best way.

Mine was in storage for most of this winter, came out a few times to strecth the legs.

WOW, that's a huge PIC up
there
I think I could use a 20 inch
monitor.

Luckily my L made it so far, the
cowl
hood is back on, and ready
for action.

But, we have that possible
storm for Monday

I made it through this year with just the F1's on it. Can drive through a decent amount of snow..though it is treacherous. I did have to abandon the truck at work the day we got nailed with a blizzard..but I couldn't even get home in a honda accord...so it's not the trux fault.
