I have a 2000 L with 70,000 miles and get about 10city driving a little hard, and the most I ever had was 16 city and highway mixed. the truck is bone stock.

I don't worry about MPG. It's a Lightning.

I've been considering buying one, and mpg was a little shocking when I saw the 12/16 rating. It is a S/C V8 in a truck, can't expect to much. If some of you guys are really averaging 15 and 16 mpg (normal driving), thats not too bad.

You guys have nice looking trucks too.

Driving normal I notice that according to the gas gauge my Lightnings use the same amount of gas for me to drive down to the shore (about a hour and half each way/quarter tank each way) as my 98 STX ext. cab with a smaller 4.6. Costs the same exact amount - no difference what-so-ever. I guess the added bottom end torque of the 5.4 in the single cab makes up for the bigger motor fuel consumption since you barely have to press the pedal to get moving where the 4.6 with the heavier ext. cab takes more throttle to get moving evening out the end result fuel consumption?

Oh I want to add one more thing, I'm talking about my 03 and 04 Lightning - for some strange reason my 2000 Lightning was god awful on fuel mileage.

I have the same problem with my current truck, and every time I accelerate my foot is on the floor just to keep up with traffic. I have the V6, but still average like 15 or 16 mixed mpg. Im also looking at diesels.

I drive 50 miles a day at most also. Im surprised that a lot of you guys get better mpg than the truck is rated for. Usually its the other way around.
