Barrs Leak

I was having a small leak from my radiator where the lower transmission cooler line goes into it. I tried to use some RTV to seal it and that didn't work. I then pulled the fitting and applied some Seal-All adhesive and it leaked less but still leaked. I then added a bottle of Barrs Leak and it quit leaking all together. I know it's kind of too late, but is Barrs Leak fine to use in a Lightning cooling system?

No. That stuff is terrible for any cooling system. Basically it plugs the passages prevnting cirulation of the fluid. Did you happen to notice all the little rubber pellets in it?

Some of the newer formulas are actually quite good, and even part of the factory fill on many vehicles.

there is nothing worse than trying to clean all that crap out of your cooling system. It sticks to every small little passage. next time try jb weld for temp radiator leaks. no big deal its just going to take patience when it comes time to replace your rad. flush the hell out of it

Are you speaking from experience? Did you have any issues related to Barrs Leak?

Spence, That stuff is not the best to be using in any set-up. As you stated a little late, but in the future, break out the Map Gas and a torch and solider the leak up....if it is in the metal portion..

I would've used solder or JB Weld but it was leaking from the plastic portion of the radiator. I've decided to replace the radiator. There's a fella on NLOC that's gonna sell me an LFP radiator for $375 shipped and it's new. What would you recommend to flush as much of the BL out as I can?

Thanks Garrett! I'll do that. Do I just remove the t-stat, pull the bottom line and stick a hose in the top line?

Didn't JLP recommend using Barrs back when we originally had the intercooler leaks on 99/00 models?

Bars Stopleak is GOOD STUFF. We've used it in all kinds of equipment and trucks. It even stops leaks in the plastic part of our radiators. I have used it in my truck and it worked for few weeks until I had time to replace the radiator. It didn't leak a drop afterwards, and there were NO deposits in the water afterward. You HAVE to buy the right kind though. It comes in a gray jug, and it looks like diarrhea. Unless you have a HUGE hole in your radiator, his stuff works great. Don't let anyone fool you. You can get it at truck stops. It's hard to find the good kind anywhere else. For stubborn leaks, you might have to dump another jug in, in a couple of years.
