Exclamation I HAVE LOST SECOND GEAR!

Tonight, filled up with gas, and pulled out into traffic. I had to give it some gas to keep from being hit, and it shifted from drive to 1st @ about 45 mph (rpms went to about 6 grand) instead of shifting to 2nd (no, I did not floor it). Well, now it will not shift out of first if I am giving it any gas at all. I have to let off of the gas, and when it does shift, it goes from 1st to drive. If I manually put it in 2nd, I can barely tell it's in gear, it's as if it is in neutral.

I am assuming I have lunched second gear...any ideas?

Yep, It's gone. I've have enough transmission troubles with Dodges to recognize the symptoms.

Please keep us posted on what you find. There seems to be a sudden rash of tranny failures.

Red face

I am getting symptoms too. I just got the JDM: flip chip, 90mm mass air. I also have the JDM trany line mod(not installed yet) I got anxious I wanted to see how it went. It goes real good, very impressed with their chip. I was riding around last night and now have a serious lack of traction but a few times I would hit it, it would light right up shift into second and keep spinning, this was all done at traffic speeds 35 MPH or so. I noticed a couple of times when I would let off it felt like the trany was slipping or kinda like it was in neutral. I thought it was probably my fault because I haven't put the line mod in yet and my chip is programed for it. I was going to do the trany mod and driveshaft today, Do you think if I do the line mod and my trany is going bad that they won't warranty it? Thanks for any advise ...Bill

Does it sputter and ping when you get to the high rpm's? We had something similar to this a while back. The fuel system had gotton cloged from the tank all the way to the fuel rail. It was restricting it so much the computer delayed the 1 - 2 and would not go into 3rd. You might wanta take a look at your fuel filter. Just a though....

If it is a tranny problem. Sounds like it is
the intermediate clutches or possibly the mechanical diode (formely known as one-way clutch).
I do auto tranny's at the dealership in Tulsa OK. Most of the L's around here have my shift kit in them. Don't usely have any tranny problems. It would be cool if I could get ahold of the one from Arkansas and tear it down and see what broke.
I will get online with Ford Hotline on Monday and see if there is any new info.
I'll let you know when I hear something.

By the way does anyone know how I can change my user name on this board.

Thumbs down

hdmlnium,
I would not do ANYTHING to your trans if you are experiencing problems. You do not want Ford coming up with any excuses not to fix it under warranty.

thundr n,
I have less than 8300 miles on my truck. I have actually been very "nice" to the truck so far. I have never raced it and I rarely put it to the floor, and when I do I do not hold it there for very long.

Lightning Boy,
No, no sputtering or pinging. It shifts from 1st to drive. If I manually put it in second, it just slips as if it is in neutral.

Damon Sutterfield,
If Tulsa wasn't so far away, I would not mind you working on it. To change your username, you have to set up a new profile, I think.

I will keep everyone up to date. I called the sales manager at the dealership and left him a message this a.m. He is a pretty cool guy. I refuse to drop it off today with the yahoos there. I will drop it off Monday under his care, after I document the miles.

Grady
