Quick Lower Pulley Q

I got a 2000 L and i want to throw either the 4 lb or the 5lb lower on it, just to hop up the poerformance a bit. Truck is stock besides a k&n filter in the stock intake and flowmaster mufflers.

My Question is, Can i throw the lower pulley on the truck without chipping or doing a tune on it? From the sounds of the other threads on here it sounds like when you upgrade the pulley and make more boost you tune it at the same time which is obviously fairly expensive while the pulley kit isnt.

Any input would be great !

Yes, you will want to get a tune as well. Many options, brand-vendor, mailorder-dyno tuned etc etc

So if i was to do it, it doesnt have to be actually tuned strapped onto a dyno. I can order one of thoughs xcal 2 computers with a tune on it or just go through the steps and set up myself?

There is nothing better than a custom tune done right.

Uncooked.

I'm just down the road in Ladner. I've looked around and found a few dyno shops here but when I do it I am still going to Sal and having him set the tune up. I'll datalog on the dyno and have him make me a custom tune based on that. As has been said nothing better than a custom tune and from all the tuning posts I've read Sal is the man!

P.S. Are you going to the mega ford weekend in Mission on the 8th?

Where is Sal located?

I will be at mission for sure. I most likely will have my 5.0 ranger running again by then so i will bring that, if not the lightning will have to do

Do you go to mission often? Ive seen a few L's out there that are regs.

I just got my L about a month ago and have yet to make a pass at mission with it.

Sal is just moving right now heading down to Florida. Lucky guy.

I've only been to Mission once which was last week but I'm planning on heading out again on Fri. I was the only L there last week.

Florida aint to bad, I will roadtrip for sure if he is a tuning guru and can give me some safe power.

Im in the same boat as you just got mine and im researching what the best brands to buy are for the different mods.

If the weather is nice i might head out to mission on friday and run my truck.

If you see a slightly lowered red L thats me

My buddy has a 99 and he's been running a 4lb and filter on it for over 5 years. He towes a 4000lb car and runs open track on a regular basis.

Get a tune is you want to push it further otherswise the compter adapts very well especially on the 99 and 00 that came pig rich from the factory.

On your truck, the stock tune is still safest.

I personally run a 3lb on my 00 with an 04 computer which is much leaner. I have countless days on the roadcourse and tow 5000+ lbs on a regular basis. I'm also one of the few with an original engine.

Trackbeast,

I thought the max you could do safely without a tune is a 2lb. Have you or your buddy been to the dyno to check A/F?

What did you do just disconnect the battery for awhile for the computer to reset?

I'm all about the original engine part That's my main goal. SAFE power.

04 Lightning,

If uncooked isn't interested I may be. How much do you want for it?
