I think the first thing im going to do a intake setup. Cant really find any solid information on what brand and system is the best and why.

Read some places the JLP ram air is the best becuase it remains sealed and pulls cold air.

But other people say you yeild better performance with a open cone setup with just the heat sheild.

Anyone ?

I've been here for quite some time and there are a few urban myths... When repeated often enough, they become fact. The tuners all want to sell tuners of course...

What year is your Lightning?

You can easily run a 4lb with nothing else. The 99-00 are pig rich from the factory. 01-02 are leaner and 03-04 leaner again.

Timing is what blows engines. I've seen trucks that were way off on A/F and never had any issues with stock tuning.

I'm running a 2.6 upper which is roughly a 3lb with a Metco idler kit (I have zero slip) with a 2004 computer which I got from the wrecker for $150. Allows you to use a 90mm MAF. Its built for endurance to run 30 minute sessions on the road course all day long. I have a modified stock air box with 3.5" tube for nice cool air. You can also open up the hole in the fender as Ford did on 01+ trucks.

03-04 tuning is the best. Ford eliminated the flat spot at around 3000rps. Shift are also better.

And best of all my original motor and tranny still run like new despite getting insane abuse at the track.

So running a 4lb lower on a 2000 L will be ok by just slapping it on and no tuning?

Hey Trackbeast,

Do I need to upgrade to a 90mm MAF or can I run 4lbs on the 80?

On a 99-00, changing the MAF to a 90 will raise your A/F ratio accross the board two full points. I personally seen this on the dyno. I don't recommend this.

But you can run a 4lb with confidence and because 99-00 were so rich, your truck will run better in all conditions.

If you want to run 90mm, (without a tune) get a 2001+ computer but because the tunes are leaner, your max is a 3lb pulley.

Glad I could help.

The 99-00 have a flat spot in the tuning where there is little power below 3000rpms unless you mach it. Essentially not very responsive. That issue was rectified on 01 and newer trucks. It was a tuning issue.

That's why I'm running a 2004 computer on my 00 which also gives better fuel mileage especially with the 3.55 rear end.

Im thinking im going to order up a JLP 4 lb lower.

Is there a fairly noticible gain from just a 4lb lower? will i go for a drive after and really feel it. Im guessing 15hp and 40 - 50 ft lbs will be pretty noticible.

The Metco pulleys are very good quality. Can't say the same about some others though. I had issues with the cheap JLP pulleys.
