Question 2000 "Cold Weather" L's

Quick question:
This morning it was pretty cold outside and I saw something on my overhead console that I've never noticed before. When I cranked the truck up the temp gauge read 38 degrees and then flashed the word "ICE" on the "screen." For the next 3 or 4 minutes it flipped between 38 and ICE. What's the deal?

DUCK01,
No fear its supposed to do that.
If the outside temp falls below 3 deg celsius or 38f the display will alternate the "Ice and Temp" display for the first min or two. I guess its a kind of heads up warning in a way. My old vehicle didn`t have this so it caught my eye the first time it did it.

Our trucks do another neat thing too. If the radio is off, all you have to do is hit the FM or the CD button, and the radio comes on to the selected format. You don't have to hit the power button first. So cool......
(There's also a button labelled AM, but I'm not sure what that does. I think it means altitude meter cause when the engine revs up going up a hill, so does the radio.)

You can also turn on RDS on your radio if any stations by you have it. It will display the radios call letters instead of the frequency... only one by me that broadcasts RDS text though is the classical station.

I like the speed sensitive volume, first vehicle I can drive with the windows open that will get louder when I go faster by itself...nice....

i believe you turn the raido on, then push & hold the volume/power button till it says something (cant remember) and the number 0.
then use the up/down arrows to go from 0-5.
i have mine set on 3.
also turn the "comp" on then playing cd's. it sounds much better..
