Today was the day I got to do some on road testing with the new chip and air meter. I'm glad I did it today instead of in the spring.

I took the truck out and drove are ound the block slowly so the engine would warm up (been in storage since nov 15). I noticed the shifts were quite a bit firmer and quicker. I'm thinking this is just what I wanted. I got on the main roads and the thing was running great till I hit about 3000 rpm while flooring it. I hear this metallic pinging from the engine. I guess this that ping everyone is talking about. Just for kicks, I took the chip out and drove it with just the new air meter and no ping and a ton of *****.

Now, I ordered this chip along with the airmeter from Powered By Ford in Fla. Should I call them with this problem since they had to burn the chip or should I get a hold of Superchips? Or should I try to get my money back from the superchip and go with one from a different manufactuer?

Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

First thing to do is buy some 104 octane boost. Add it to 1/2 to 3/4 tank of gas. If the pinging goes away then either the timimg in the chip is advanced too far or the gas you are buying is lower quality.

With those results call the folks you bought the chip from.

If the truck has been sitting that long, it's possible for the fuel to have gone bad. I would run the tank dry without the chip. Refill will premium fuel and retry your chip. Be sure to disconnect the negative terminal on the battery during chip install.
If this dont help, send it back for a fix, or a reburn.

I would contact Superchips and tell them that you got the chip at PBF. I had to get my chip re-burned because of pinging and they said that PBF uses a old program.PBF burns their chips thru Superchips here in Longwood.Tell then that you also have diffrent air meter and they will program the chip for it.After they did mine I have had on problems.The shifts will be much smoother.There # is 407-260-0838.
