Post Launch tips please

I'm taking my neighbors 00L to the track tonight for the first time. Please post me some tips to get out of the hole without too much wheel spin. Thanks

Cool

See http://www.cfcc-dfw.org/motorsports/...ragbasics.html
Traction shouldn't be a problem at the strip. With all the rubber they put down and the VHT you should hook up much better than the street. Try punching it off idle the first time, and if you don't get wheelspin try power braking it until you find the rpm where you do get wheelspin. From what I read most folks here on f1s are launching at 1200 - 1400 rpm.
Btw, your neighbor's? He must be a trusting soul. I wouldn't let my neighbor touch my truck, much less race it. Holy smoke, don't wreck it. Have fun, though.

Thanks for the site. My neighbor is almost 60. He loves the truck but always lets me race it. It's a nice deal, however since doing this I ordered an 01, so it's going to cost me.

My advise: pullaround the water box, then back in front of it. Don't back into the water, stop right in front of it, power brake until it spins a couple seconds then stage at about 1,000 rpm using the brake. Go right before the 3rd amber, & you should cut a good light. Adjust rpm as nessasary for the best launch. Have fun! Lloyd

Question

Almost 60? Jeez, why doesn't somebody shoot the old ********r and put him out of his misery? J/K, I am well over 60, not ready to trade my L. for a shuffleboard quite yet. And there are some people on this board like Marcus who know I don't exactly drive slow. My best friend is well over 60, too, and he used to work for Bob Bondurant, but he swapped his fast cars for a 250 mph airplane, which he races at Reno, etc. There's life in some of us old dogs yet.

My procedure is quite simple really... this is my procedure. Some might have other opinions

First be sure the OD is off. When your approaching the water box, it is important to pay attention to the guy guiding you through. You want to have you rear tires just past the water, but right on the edge of the burnut box.Just past the water.
Now your ready for the burnout. I do not do first or a second gear burnout, I leave mine in Drive. Be sure to apply enough brake pressure, but not too much, you want the tires to start spinning with the least resistance from the braking system. Once you "jab" the throttle to start the burnout, you will easily pegg the r.p.m.'s. The truck will shift into second. Once in second I usually maintain 4500 r.p.m. feathering the throttle (depending on water box) until I feel the tires strarting to "grab, with third gear sometimes engaging. I then continue to give it gas, but ease off the brakes and "roll" out of the box.

A dry hop in not required. The first intial launch after a proper burnout is the best launch IMO.
At the tree, I simply brake-torque anywhere between 1600-2000 r.p.m.'s, (depending on the track conditions) and LAUNCH FOR THE SKY

There is no reason to have the OD on when racing, better to have it off.

Manually shifting at the track with a lighting is not required, and to be honest, it will just lead to problems, and inconsistent shifts.
With a properly tuned chip, leave it in Drive and have fun. You would not be able to shift the truck fast enough manually for consistency.

Granted I don't have the fastest truck in here by far, I have tried a ton of different launch styles and found this to be the best for me.

I roll up to the burn out box. When they give me the signal I don't brake, I just nail it and let the truck burn em out of the box up to the line. I stage real shallow for best E/T, just when the bottome stage lights come on. I brake with the left. Just before the 3rd amber comes on, I hit it to about 3/4 throttle until the truck starts to get some momentum then I floor it. This has gotten me a best 60' of 2.02 and the run was a 13.92@99.64 mph. There was just a chirp from the tires at the line when I did this. The best thing to do is experiment with what works best for you, thats half of the fun.
