Unhappy Damage from E-town

Well,I finally got the motor tore down. And found out that I blew the head gasket between the back two cylinders on the drivers side. Those were the two plugs that I melted also. I believe that a combination between the thick air, the NOS system running a little lean on fuel and rich on NOS for the cool air a high barometric pressure caused this failure. The valves seem to be O.K. as do the pistons. I have to do some checking on the Victor Renz head gaskets that were on the motor to see if that could of been part of the problem. I'll let everyone know.

Blown gasket on head:

Damage to head only about .020 deep. I have to check with head shop to see if it can be repaired.

I hope the pictures work I'm still learning.

Wink

Ouch! I imagine that a good machine shop can do wonders on cylinder heads these days.

That end plug looks mighty lean or is it a reflection that makes it look that way?
Good Luck.

Those weren't the plugs I had in it when melted down. The cylinder on the right (back cylinder) the electrode was melted off. The cylinder on the left the electrode was melted off and a big chunk of the porcelen (sp)was gone. The second to the back piston had some small nicks in the top from the porcelen pieces banging around. But no serious damage. I was surprised to find the valves OK. I had the TR-6's in it. But I don't think it was the heat range. The NOS and fuel jets I had run before in Michigan. But we NEVER get 34 in/hg at our altitude. Alot of people don't realize how much that can effect your times. I ran the truck on a Wednesday test and tune at Milan with decent weather loaded on the trailer went to Cecil County on a rather hot humid day and went 3/10 faster without changing a thing. Not to knock the East Coast guys or any thing but the thick are does help your times and obviously leans your motor down.

2001bolt,
The mods are in the sig. except for the floor mats and Yosimite Sam Mud Flaps

LOL...Well, the fuel pump died on me last night. Driving along the highway and all of a sudden on my external mounted fuel pressure guage pressure dropped from 30 down to 10 Anything over 1300 R.P.M.'s and the truck would just die. Luckily I was able to crawl back to the JDM shop. Looks like we will be replacing the pump assembly today....

Speedin'
yea...thanks to RUDY from JDM, I also have a new LIGHTNING fuel pump assembly to drop in. I gotta admit, if I did not have that external guage in my line of sight, I would have been so pissed not knowing what it was. I watched the pressure go from 14 down to 10 and end of around 8 psi

Thank you AUTOMETER And people thought I was weird for having an external guage...bahhh

But bob, I thought your only mods were floor mats and a bug deflector.

Honestly though that sucks.

Just take it back to the dealer and tell them to fix the damage under warrenty.
