Angry MY 2001 LIGHTNING IS BROKEN!!!!!!

102 miles on her and she "*****S IN THE WEEDS"
No mill light! Missing and shuddering!

Checked all the connectors vacuum lines and put my NGS to it! No codes!! NONE,ZIP!!!
I'm not taking it back to the dealer for them to put a #@$! of a lot of miles and start pulling parts to guess!!!

I'm so "F"ing pissed off!! Started with a strong vibration, then went to a slight shudder, then it felt like it was on three cylinders. Just made it home!

Can't wait for Monday!! That's all i can say! I hope i cool down before i go back to work!! I was thinking the torque converter is being erratic, engaging and dis-engaging. Can't tell. The engine is too rough!!

I didn't drive all the way into Canada to get this!!! Maybe it has to do with the $4.00 part in the trans. Diode maybe!! Ford_Tech, you out there. No fluids leaking and the intercooler is still full. I will keep everyone posted on what i find out what's going on!!!

BlackBolt99,
Thanks, I still can't believe it's happening! It's worse then a kick below the belt. I hope this doesn't hit anyone else. Symtoms are: At operating temps when you have your foot on the brake, in drive you will get a vibration up your leg and through the steering wheel. That's the start. I suggest everyone test drive your trucks before you sign the papers!

Sorry, still mad.

How many miles did you put on it before getting these symptoms? Will we be able to repro this at the dealer when we pick ours up, or will it take a few miles first?

I noticed a slight vibration the night i picked it up. It had 19 miles on her when i took the keys. Stored it for a week. Finaly, after the roads got better so i took it out today to work. I had eighty miles on it when it started to get bad. That's all!!

Hey Thor, must be the Michigan air, tonight I was cruising south on 275 right around your neck of the woods and was playing with some a$$ and decided to punch it. Everything was fine until 85-90 mph when she started shaking and acting like I hit the rev-limiter, but I was only at 3K, needless to say I lifted and it went away. I didnt try to reproduce it yet, but I am upset. I dont really know if this is the flutter everyone is talking about, or just an excessive amout of coolant being sucked into the combustion chambers but it was freaky as hell.

Unhappy

Thor,

My 99 L does that whenever it has been stored for a week or more, and it is damp...I/we think that the coils are getting damp and thus the spark blowing out. I will be taking my truck to the dealer to have the coils replaced soon (among other things). After driving it for a while without WOT, it dries out and runs fine?!

...Dwight...

Thanks for your input everyone!! The problem is,the truck was running with a vibration from day one. Then as i drove it more and more it got worse! I've cooled down about it some. I'll be going out to get under the truck to see if there is anything visualy obvious. I've changed fuel, checked all connections. As bad as it's running i'm betting it's something with the trans/torque converter. No codes still and i haven't put a single mod on her yet! Still bone stock...

Thor correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there a delay becuase they were having problems with the transmission before they started production?

EvilGuy,
They did have problems with the mechanical diode! Don't know the symptoms. I started the truck today. Pulled one of the plugs and it looked good. I can hear the poping in the exhaust like a valve or two is bad. I never got on it enough to be an internal problem. Not unless the dealer inspection person beat on it on the test drive. I'll get the truck down to work and start calling people.

Hey, it sounds like you may have a problem that a lot of F-150 owners have had, myself included. There is some problem with a clamp and antifreeze leaks onto the fourth spark plug, shorting it out. It's actually a pretty simple fix, if that is what is wrong with your truck. I am sorry to hear about your problems, but mention that problem to the mechanic, because he might be familiar with it. Hope this helps!

Jim
