MY 2001 LIGHTNING IS BROKEN!!!!!!
BigD,
Time to get in to a dealer, Todd has lots of experience changing plugs on the Lightning,
if my intercooler comes in as promised...it will be the third time plugs changed. It will probably take a while to get seats judging by my intercooler. April at Byron is coming soon.

Well,
I know it's not the mechanical diode!! I spoke to a 4R100 system engineer today. I'm waiting others i contacted at SVT to get back with me. I have another trans guy that is going to look at the truck to determin if it's trans or engine. I can't get into the throttle becase it shudders too much to notice if I've lost power in the engine. Still no codes and no engine noise indicating mechanical failure!! I'll keep everyone up to date!!

Thor01,
I'm going to guess you've got a dead plug or coil pack. No mechanical noises is a good thing. I'm also guessing it runs bad while sitting in the driveway in PARK since you didn't say different. If so, the chances of it being the transmission are slim to none.
From what you've described, it sounds like it's hitting on 7 cylinders. Yes, it could be an engine part, and if so, most likely the valvetrain, but I don't think so. Usually, you can hear something. If it were a piston and or rings, it'd be pumping oil.
My money is on a bad "new" plug. I've seen it several times before. Also, it could be a dead or clogged (foreign particle) fuel injector or related wiring. Either way, these two things will make it run nasty and cause the engine to shake and shimmy. Hang in there - I don't think it's serious.

gforce,
I agree it may be one of the three. The SVT calibrator can hook up up his equipment(have to say equipment b/c i can't say what were using to calibrate our vehicles) then he can look at the injector puls and spark and then I will know! If the trans guy does the same first and takes the trans out of the loop.
Once i know for sure i can then go to the dealer with exact diognosis and keep them from guessing. That means less time in their hands. Your close if not on the problem! I believe in being thorough!

Thor, I'm willing to bet the bank on a spark plug problem. I know it's in a way different class, but the same thing happened to my Camaro, jumpy, no throttle (sp?) response. Just nasty. The car jumped like hell until my engine light finally came on. Good luck on your findings!!!

It could also be a VSS (vehical speed sensor). When they go bad they can cause simmilar symptions. The coil/spark plug could also be a possibility.
I hope it is nothing serious, keep us posted on what it turns out to be

THOR
Double check and see if some joker didn't drop a Dog R/T motor under your hood, this would also cause the L to have fits.

Could it in any way possibly be the Overheat protection system??
Isn't that supposed to start shutting down cylinders when the engine gets too hot?
First by shutting down two, then 4, Etc.
If there was some kind of short or screwed up wiring to that controller it might cause the problem???
Just a WAG.

First off,

Thanks people for passing on your thoughts on the problem. That's what i like best about this board! "GOOD PEOPLE" People here help, when someone has a problem! I appreciate it!
For the update! SVT did get back with me!
Won't say who i spoke to! Just that they would like to look at the truck. The next nice day we have I will be taking it down to work so they can see what it's doing!
I will keep those who have the same or similar issue informed on what they find. They were cool about it and I was cool and appreciative that they are willing to help.
In a way i'm lucky! Our weather is bad, so i can't drive it anyway!!

Thor,
Any results yet? I just got my truck yesterday and there is a noticeable vibration . No performance problems with the truck (yet, and hopefully none to come!). I am certainly curious about the problem you experienced here.
Thanks,
James

OneRedTXBolt,
Glad to hear yours came in!!! They are fast!!! You don't have to worry about your truck. Mine lost #4 spark plug. They checked the truck over and it was cool. SVT wanted to make sure the truck was right. Now it is. Just on of those things i guess!! Best of luck with your truck. Get some kills. e-mail me at slightning01@aol.com
