Dyno run... Gone Bad
Dyno run... Gone Bad
My truck has been running badly the last few weeks, a bit of back firing and a ping @ high rpms.. so I brought it to local dyno place. I get there @ about 10 am, and get it going. I wanted a tune and then get a dyno, to see the numbers here. After the preliminary set-up, we get it going. The truck started to run badly @ high R's.. so they decided to pull the plugs and look at them. We find out that the plugs were gapped @ about 40!!! UGH! I was sooooooooo pissed.. 3 of them were burnt beyond recognition. Re-gapped new plugs @ 28ish.. Stared to run great.. but.. the converter would not lock up... HUH? find out that the tune was set up for a 4.6 Manual Mustang... ???? Who did that? Dunno..
He puts the "proper" file in and go her going.. Wow.. nice sound, smooth as silk!!! Sounded real strong! @ 3000 rpm got 320 HP and over 400 Tq. Looks good! So we do a few more pulls , just to continue the "tweaking" of the tune. Getting stronger as we continue.. then! Squeeeeeeeek! Boom! @ 4760 rpm.. the SC belt spins and bam Kenny is Dead.. Getting a grinding noise out of it.. So long story short, I limp home. I was there a total of 10 hours, between plugs, finding the wrong tune, and the runs. The only golden side of this is that he only charged me 250 bucks.. 50 bucks to change my plugs and 200 for the tune. He kept the "good " tune in the SCT..
NOW I need to send my Kenny to Kenny to get it fixed??? Has anyone had to do this? I am lookin for some insight in how to handle it.. Any thoughts?

My KB locked up on the dyno 3 days after they did the rebuild kit on it. I sent it in the first time cause it didn't sound right. They said it needed to be rebuilt. Now to give you a short version I bought this KB used found out the build date mid 05 maybe had 5000 miles on it. The blower was maybe just over a year old. I wasted 750.00 bucks on a rebuild when I told them their was something wrong with it to begin with. So when I got it back three days later it locked up on the first dyno pull. I ended up with a new blower but not after the horrible customer service I got from KB. For what I paid for the used blower and the rebuild I could have bought a new one with a few bills left over. What ended happening was a rear shaft bearings failed.
I called first and all they told me was to send it back so they can look at it. I told them when my dyno shop was ready to pull a pass they wouldn't cause the blower was making so much noise like rotor contact. This is what I told them. They get it and call me to tell me it needs to be rebuilt. I was not happy is the short version. Then I get it back and 3 days later 1st pull it locked up. Lets just say in the short version that KB did not stand behind their work.
Well that gives me allot of confidence in KB... lol..
How long was the turn around time ? once they got it?

Dont come to bash but it is similar to what happened to me. I have a 2.3 that was put on last year @ JLP. It started using oil back in March. I noticed it was getting worse so I called and sent it back. I thought, what the heck it's still under warranty and less than a year old.....They called and said the blower had scratches like it had gotten something in it and that messed one of the seals up......Yep, you guessed it, a 740 dollar rebuild at my expense. Thats odd, filter is new and serviced correctly. I am **** about everything on the truck and it's mainly a weekend warrior with low miles....very well maintained. Short version....I coughed it up and we'll see how it does when I get it back today or tomorrow.......

Hmmm how convenient that it had scratches in it huh? Sounds like a hose job to me..
