Dyno run... Gone Bad
Holy ****** schitt G, WTF happen after we talked on the phone the other day
When you told me your guy was only making 3000 rpm runs and couldnt Dyno it fully because the convertor wouldnt lock up I was a little stumped there, and questioning his ability's to be honest with you ? Did you ever get in touch with Sal that afternoon and ask him about locking up the convertor for the Dyno ? As I told you (and I've done well over 50 Dyno's at PSP) when Sal Dyno'd any of my L's the first thing he does is pull the Chip and set it up to be dyno'd "before" he makes any pulls. I've never heard of a Convertor not locking up or preventing you from making a pull on the dyno. AMOF we've seen all kinds of strange spikes on posted dyno sheets here due to the convertor locking up in the middle of the pull, but again most tuners set the chip before a pull to prevent that from happening.
I know you've been driving it quite a while now on the new motor, after the guy did that motor please tell me he put some kind of new tune in it ??? Once you change heads (which of course changed the flow rate) you would of course have a differant A/F mixture.
I can tell you one thing the convertor DEF locks up, you can feel and see it doing that each and everytime you drive it, I sure did. As for having a Mustang Tune for a Stick in it, WTF is that about ???
I watched Sal build those tunes, and I watched Sal tweak those tunes, and they were absolutely positivaly 99L tunes "for that truck and those mods".
I asked you what the AF was while you were making pulls the other day, (after you changed the plugs) and all you said was it was now running perfect, strong, and he said the tune was perfect, WHAT HAPPEN AFTER THAT ???
You have the bill for the KB, the wrrnty card went out the day I bought it, and it is WELL under 1 year old. You've had the truck 6 months now so that 2.6 is no longer than 7-8 months old. There is nothing for you to worry about, especially with the truck down a few months in between. Call Jim Bell today explain that you have a new 2.6 with a few months driving on it and something happen to it, where do I send it for wrrnty repair / replacement. As long as the engine builder torqued it properly and the case shows no signs it was warped from improper torque your fine. BTW there is no Kenne Bell there, you want to talk to Jim Bell.
What a ****** nightmare......
Who the hell did you buy that thang from ???

Hey Rob...
Yes at the time we talked it was only up to 3000 rpm runs, he finally got it to lock up after he changed the tune to a 99 lightning.. there was an "option" to lock it up, which it did. Then we did a few more runs, getting stronger with each run, then that is when I Killed Kenny... Belt spun... and Poof!
I found the receipt, yes it is for 11/30/06.. so that is a good thing. I will pull it off today and send it off today also. Is there a number or serial that will correspond to Kenny? I assume there is.. I called them yesterday and they just said send it in. SO I will do that. Its not a big issue, should be back on the road in a couple weeks I am guessing, depends on the turn around time.
Yea who did sell me this piece O .... ??????
Haha...

Thats what the tech on the phone said.. he was surprised it was even running.. haha... so somewhere there was a glitch.. you know computers
Its all good...
I removed Kenne today and he is on his way today back to Cali to get his guts removed and reinstalled. He will be there on Friday.. hopefully a fast turn around. to much nice weather coming to miss to long..

Tune
It has come to my attention from surfing the L forums that simply owning a dyno does not necessarily mean the operator has any expertise with respect to tuning Lightnings. If I had a built engine and a 2.6 KB, I would place my confidence in someone with solid credentials for tuning. I think someone like Sal could provide you with a base tune, interpret your datalog and tweak the tune. My experience with dyno tuning has not been good and I have had to resort to altering the dyno tune with my handheld to prevent detonation on the street.
In all honesty, I have used and will use JJ for my tuning but this is because I bought my Whipple, PRP software, 2400 MAF and Xcal from him. I will not allow the local dyno operator to play with the tune and if I run it on the dyno it will be to obtain a poster for the wall (if the numbers are good).LOL
I must say my understanding is that Sal tuned your truck before and it ran well enough that you bought it. Your previous troubles seem to be related to factors not related to tuning and I think you could be confident in Sal's services.
While dyno tuning will facilitate a good tune from a skilled experienced Lightning tuner, data logging from the street or strip and fine tuning is the most important factor .

Was the blower properly torqued down when it was reinstalled>???
It's a shame to hear these stories about KB customer service. They took care of me a lot better than they needed to. That's the short story.
I've said this before and I am sticking with it. I think a lot of blower issues are caused be installer error. -Mat-
