Question My 2001L is in

My 2001 Silver L has arrived at the dealership in Toronto, Ontario. I am picking it up on Wednesday. Just curious as to the ideal way to break it in. It takes about 3 hours to get home in Kingston. Should I drivelike I stole it or like Granny?

Thanks,

HORSE9

Congratulations Horse9. I'd drive it home in a closed transporter. I picked mine up last year at the end of March and it only took about 1 week before it had its first rock off the hood. These trucks are like stone magnets. And the paint doesn't seem to adhere so well to the aluminum hoods.

Just trying to say that with all the crud put on the roads for our winter driving pleasure really does a number on these trucks.

Enjoy it. They are a blast. Which dealer are you buying from?

Use common sense and break the truck in properly.

Drive at various speeds, both highway and around town. Be easy on it. Do the first oil change early, then start to have some real fun with it.

Straight from SVT:

What is the recommended break-in procedure for my SVT vehicle?

SVT recommends that you drive your SVT vehicle easy the first 1,500 miles, combining highway and city routes.

Refrain from using the upper rpm range. As the miles accumulate, stretch the engine out to use more of the available rpm. Also, do not to use the brakes aggressively in the first 300 miles to give the brake linings a chance to properly break in.

Check http://www.svt.ford.com/faq.html for more info.

Good luck!

Opps, guess I missed that memo about breaking it in! I'm sure my baby will be fine. She ran strong as hell today, although I did keep things slow as it was raining hard today.

Thank you everyone for the info. I have some pictures from the Kennedy Ford Sales in Oakville. It is about 4 miles from the Ontario Truck Plant where the L's are made. If anyone knows how to attach these to a message please let know and I will forward them asap.

Sorry HORSE9 - Got your emails, but they were Big Time Infected with the 7 Dwarfs virus. Would not open your attachments!! Sorry about that.

The attachments also came with .eml file extensions which are a big no-no.

Try going to www.Zing.com and opening an account. From there you can post any picture you want on this site.

Please don't send me any more e-mails. Thanks!!
