why did they stop L production after '95?
They stopped because they didn't sell very well. They started in '99 because of the attention the "L" concept got at auto shows. That's my guess anyway.

I agree with 4D THDR.
I remember going to buy my '94L back in April of '94. There were 4 sitting on the lot at _that_ one particular dealer. The salesman, of course, is trying to tell me its a limited edition truck, etc.
I said, "yeah, and you have 4 of them. How about invoice?" Done.
It was a fun truck. I did only a few mods to it (8psi Vortech A-trim) and it ran 13.4 @ 102mph on stock 20k mile radials. If I could have afforded to keep it when I bought my '96 Cobra, I would still have that truck.
I also believe since the new body-style/engine options came out in '96, there was just no real "Lightning" option for Ford at the time. They were going to the 4.6/5.4 motors and I bet they wanted to see public reaction to the new body-style/powertrain first before tooling a line for the Lightning-specific truck.
