I did a baseline dyno and was ready to install the Magnaflows but I was told by a muffler expert that he had just finished doing a ton of muffler set ups for a magazine and I should wait until after the report. I'm still waiting.

Question Magnaflow muffler question (Fordsales?)

Anyone have info on Group Purchase for the Magnaflow muffler? I did a search and saw there was to be a magazine article reviewing many exhaust options. I have not seen this article yet and am seeking a sound change. Also read Fordsales was going to do a dyno on this setup. Any info on power gains and where to buy online would be greately appreciated.

Cool

gforce has done some testing on the 12568 Magnaflow with a G-TECH.

Hey Chuck! Yes, and really, I was quite surprised at the initial results with the Magnaflow. Completely stock, I baselined at 335 hp with the G-Tech, time and time again. My actual 248C dyno number was 332 hp stock. Before the Magnaflow, I put straight Dynomax race mufflers on and lost on average 9-10 hp. That really surprised me. Then, knowing that Chuck was happy with his muffler and that he picked up a little at the track with it and his own airbox mod, I tried the 12568 too. I took a close look at the inside of the muffler and was very impressed by the way the internal X pipe was made and the high quality of the muffler in general. You can look into the left or right inlets and see both exits at the same time. Definitely has to be good for a scavenging effect.

Anyway, after installing it and waiting for a 50* day to match my baseline tests, the 50* temps came last weekend. After several runs, the average was 21 hp over stock without a chip. The very first run was 360 hp. I couldn't believe it. Subsequent results fell off though because of back-to-back runs, but not much. I do have JL's airkit on and I figure it's probably worth 12-15 hp, so I'm guessing about a 6-10 hp gain from the muffler. I also picked up .1-.15 on the G-Tech on 1/4 runs, and this was with bad, bad nasty launches because of dusty, dirty roads.

Having had this muffler, I would like to try the 12468 muffler, money permitting. It is about 4" shorter and 3" or so narrower so that would make it louder. My truck sounds about the same as stock. Chuck said his is a little louder than stock. I dunno, these trucks all vary a little I guess.

Here's a pic of it. Aluminized steel.

I forgot to mention it will slide right on the existing cat-pipes without tearing them up. The only thing that needs to be done is the bracket that holds the two cat-pipes together needs to be unbolted allowing the pipes to be separated about 3/4". Not a big deal. Of course, the taipipe exits need to be fabricated. To look at my truck, it looks like stock and cost me about $155, muffler and labor included.
