So, I am driving through a really TINY town in north Florida when some bone-head comes along side me in a brand new Tundra.
We catch the light red and he pulls right up beside me, close to the center line so I could see the 5.7L i-Force emblem, I guess ??
We are in town, with a 35 MPH speed limit, at 1:00 in the afternoon. Traffic everywhere and small towns in north Florida are notorious for speed traps... So, the light turns green and he jumps on it hard.
I literally rolled gently on the throttle (no tire spin) and then pressed it about 1/2 way down - that was enough to put a length on him by the time I hit 35. I then let off completely and coasted to the next light.
Here he comes again... This time, I ignored him and pulled forward just enough to trap him behind another car ahead of us, in his lane. I maintained this until we reached the last light at the edge of town.
Looking ahead, I could see where the speed limit raised again to 65, so I decided to show him a little more than 1/2 throttle acceleration. When the light changed, I again rolled on it gently, with just enough throttle to "hold" 1st gear until he came by. Then, I dropped the hammer on the poor boy - I wish I had a camera so you guys could see the look on his face as I promptly made him a memory in the rear view mirror.
I let off at 70, and, true to form, he eventually came flying past me in the left lane. After he passed me, he slowed and pulled along side of me again. He was hand motioning to run again - I looked at him, shrugged and said "What for" ?
He didn't seem to understand, which I thought was very funny too.
Anyway, I read a thread here some time ago where someone was saying the new Tundra would give a stock Lightning a good run... I say only if the Lightning didn't know they were racing...... This is the 2nd one I've encountered, both with identical results.
And neither required me to really jump on my L really hard...
BTW - That is one big truck - and it sure is ugly, too !!!

Believe it or not, the last owner of my truck traded it in on a Nissan. Not for the same reasons and he knew the truck would not hold a light to the L. He needed a larger truck to carry his 4 wheelers in. Thank God he did, because I now own the prize possession. He He He.

God, Im going to get hammered for this one, but I actually like the new Tundra (opposed to every single other truck out right now including the Ford). I would never buy one or really any new vehicle for that matter, but I think its a damn good looking truck and makes pretty decent power to not have a blower (I mean, It makes 385/420 where we make 385/450). Of course the thing is a pig due to weight, but what new truck isnt? Im sure this sounds like every reply where someone defends the underdog

I wonder how much power loss they have in the drivetrain, because we really lucked out with the logic defying effidiency of our 4R100's..........hmmm slap a 4R100 in a Tundra and they may run quicker.....

I work at a Yoda dealer and I gotta say I like the Tundra, but without forced induction that truck cant even begin to consider hanging with the L.
And I cant believe the driver of a new Tundra would act like a ricer around you =P

Hey, I give Toyota kudos for the powerplant and the 6 speed automatic transmission...
I think it is amazing the power Chevrolet makes with some of their N/A motors...
I think it is even more amazing that some people try and try again, even after having witnessing the acceleration capabilities of our trucks.
I wish I had a dollar for every time someone told me that my truck can't hook up, because it is too light in the rear.
They always look shocked if they ride in it, or lose to it....

As far as buying one, for the money they want, I'd be looking at the F-250 with a Power Stroke - way more truck, IMHO.

Should have run him again... Just to make sure that HE knew you were racing the first 2 times. From the story, I can't tell whether half of this story didn't just happen in your own mind or not. A full length at 35 mph, with only 1/2 throttle acceration and a gentle roll in, is pretty hard to believe. Maybe you should let your intentions be known "before" the race next time. I know Lightnings are faster; but, those trucks aren't the slouches you're trying to make them out to be. I've run a couple of them, too. They hung around nearly as well as a stock L does. Not quite, but, almost. I still haven't found a single cab to line up with though. That would be fun. One with the TRD supercharger would be even better.
